Why You Should Color Coordinate School Subjects

Have you ever had to take everything out of your backpack only to find the last thing that you grab is what you were looking for? Instead of taking everything out of a backpack, try Color coordinating which subjects equal a certain color. This will also help with back to school and keeping kids organized.

Michael Tipper, a public speaker on mind mapping, states, “Separating “branches” of your map by color, stimulates the creative side of your brain, helps you visually separate and recall distinct themes of the stuff you’re working through, and encourages you to map through even boring topics that seem cut-and-dry.”

“Take any typical student’s notes and they will usually be written in one color,” Tipper writes. “That means pages and pages of similar-looking notes. Add a dash of color … and all of a sudden, the notes come alive. They are unique, they are unusual, they are memorable and they are more interesting.”

Have you noticed that as an adult, things are still color coordinated? Instilling this easy organizational tool in kids can help them prepare for situations later in life.

Setting up your kids back to school supplies may sound daunting, but follow our 3 easy steps and you will thank yourself many times throughout the school year!

What you will need to do:

Step 1: While you are back to school shopping keep everything in color groups. (You don’t have to figure out which subject belongs to what color yet). For example, if you get a purple binder, get a purple notebook, pen, journal, etc.

Step 2: Once you get everything home and ready to organize further, put everything into piles with each coordinating color.

Step 3: Grab your labels and start labeling. Ask your kid their input on what color they want each subject. It will help them remember what color is for what subject.

Now your kid is all ready for the first day of school! How do you use color to stay organized?
