He has about as much credibility in terms of Christianity as President Obama’s favorite reverend, Reverend Wright does.

Bishop Eddie Long: Is He the New King?

The congregation at the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church was witness to a unique ceremony—the crowning of a king. A visiting speaker, Ralph Messer hailed Eddie Long as a king and said, “He’s a king. God’s blessed him.” Eddie Long was then shrouded in a Torah scroll, raised by four men, and taken around a stage amidst loud cheers and louder claps.

The act has been criticized by many in the Jewish community. According to Rabbi Joshua Heller of Congregation B’nai Torah, Sandy Springs, the fragile pages of a Torah are not supposed to be touched and there are explicit rules that state who can handle a Torah. Besides, covering a person with a Torah is not a Jewish custom.

Bishop Long once again finds himself at the center of a controversy, just days after returning to his place on the pulpit (to spit out his garbage and hate speech). Foreclosure attorneys note that he had given up his position as the head pastor of his church in December last year, after allegations of sexual abuse were leveled against him and his wife filed for a divorce. Now it remains to be seen, how Bishop reacts to this incident.
