Witness one of the most awe-inspiring celestial events from the nation’s #1 city – Charleston, SC on Monday August 21st. From 2:46 – 2:48 EDT, visitors across the region will be able to view a total solar Eclipse. There will be plenty of events around the Lowcountry celebrating the eclipse and we’re rounding up some of our favorites. What will you be doing when Charleston goes dark? Only 3 days to go!
Visit Carolina Ale House for the Sip the Eclipse Rooftop Blackout Event. Carolina Ale House sits three stories above the Historic Marion Square and the rooftop space will open at 1pm with reservations for large groups.
The Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry will be open 9am – 5pm but in celebration of the Solar Eclipse, they’ll have programming from 10am – 2pm revolving around the sun, moon and earth.
Join the Charleston RiverDogs at Joseph P. Riley Park to learn more about the eclipse with special guests from NASA and more! The gates are opening at 1:00pm for an early entrance to the 2:48pm eclipse and 4:05pm game.
Paint This Town is painting “Eclipse Charleston,” a limited time only painting that’s great for first-time painters. They may not offer another paint party like this for 600 years, so call and reserve your space today.
The USS Yorktown will be one of the final locations in the United States to view the total solar eclipse and guests can watch as the historic aircraft carrier, known to many as the “Fighting Lady,” is transformed to the “Shaded Lady” when the moon completely covers the sun.
Head over to Middleton Place to learn about this historic event from an astronomer from the College of Charleston, providing insights on how man’s evolving understanding of the cosmos impacted both the arts and science. The first 500 visitors will receive certified safe eclipse viewing glasses.
Practice yoga in the sun’s shadow and enjoy harbor views. This SunShadow Yoga is open to all fitness levels and will take place from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at the Mount Pleasant Pier.
Celebrate with a prime viewing location in the Lenhardt Garden at the Gibbes Museum of Art downtown. Enjoy two-for-one museum admission for adults, and children under 17 are free.
