All I Want for Christmas is a Bigger Booty

Everything sags as we age. It’s one of the dumb things about getting older. One area that can be particularly depressing is when it happens to our backsides. Yes, the buttocks are naturally prone to sag, both from the natural slackening of our tissues and from our sedentary lifestyles. What once was high, round bottom is now flatter and lower. Ugh.

A Brazilian Butt Lift with Dr. Lonergan or Dr. deLeeuw can change that, returning the buttocks to a higher position, adding volume, and enhancing the overall shape. In other words, creating a butt you may have once had, or even fuller!

Is a Brazilian butt lift an augmentation?

The Brazilian Butt Lift is not an augmentation in the true sense, where an implant provides the increased volume. Instead, a Brazilian butt lift is a fat transfer. In a butt lift, a patient’s fat is used for the transfer.

In a butt augmentation, silicone implants are surgically placed. The problem with this is that the recovery is very difficult, as you’re not supposed to sit down for a rather lengthy period. Also, implants can shift and move, especially if you don’t allow enough recovery time.

In a Brazilian butt lift, the consensus is that this procedure provides a more natural-looking result.

How is a Brazilian butt lift done?

Obviously, a secondary benefit of this procedure is that you have liposuction to remove unwanted fat from an area such as your abdomen or thighs. We then use this fat for your fat transfer. For the liposuction, a mix of epinephrine and lidocaine is injected into the target area. Tiny incisions are made, and Dr. Lonergan or deLeeuw inserts a thin cannula to loosen and suction out the fat in the area. Up to three times the amount of fat that will be re-injected may be harvested.

The fat, tissue, liquid, and blood that were removed are run through a centrifuge to separate and purify the fat. We then re-inject the fat back into the buttocks through dozens of small injections all over your buttocks. Special attention is paid to the upper area to make it more round.

Are my results immediate?

Results from a Brazilian butt lift are immediately visible, but there will be some time required for swelling and bruising to go away. This subsides in a few days. After that, your results keep improving because it takes some time for the fat to “take.” It can take a full year before a patient’s full results are visible. Over time, some of the initial volumes from your fat grafting procedure will diminish. On average, patients retain 60 to 80% of the transferred fat, with the body absorbing the rest.
