Reflections: Meditations of the Soul

Tags: quiet

We live in a world that bombards us with so much stimulation and distraction that to have a few minutes of Quiet time seems impossible.

If time is not taken to relieve this constant push and pull, we lose perspective and become overwhelmed. Have you ever said “I can’t think straight” or “I don’t know whether I’m coming or going”?

Make it a part of your day every day to take a minute or two and stop what you are doing to breathe and quiet your mind.  The technique is simple and easy to do, and once you are used to it, you will be able to energize yourself in a short time to go on with what you were doing.

Every machine needs rest time and refurbishing,  Your body is a finely tuned mechanism that needs to stop once in a while to regenerate.

Think about a comfortable and blissful place you love.  If you love boating, see yourself in the boat floating on the lake and relaxing.  If you love hiking find a lovely area on top of a mountain – breathe in the fresh air, have a look at the beautiful vista. If you love the beach, envision yourself sitting on the sand, listening to the waves beat against the shore, the foam spraying your face, the sun warming your skin.

Wherever you are, be present with the place and the feeling you have.  Act as if you are there and can actually sense the presence of the quiet.  Breathe deeply from the diaphragm to balance the left and right hemispheres of your brain.  The deep breathing sends a message to your brain to “calm down.”  As the intense brain waves subside, thoughts begin to flow easily.  Be aware of your breathing and aware of the sights and sounds you are experiencing in the moment.

The soothing quietness envelopes you with a deep stillness.  In this stillness of the mind are the answers to your questions and the decisions of your concerns.  The quiet space recharges you and helps you rejuvenate your energy.

Take time each day for quiet contemplation.  It sustains you and you can go on refreshed and ready.
