Find the best keywords to generate traffic to your blog/website

Finding the best Keywords to generate traffic to your blog/website is an extremely crucial process as the amount of readers you will receive will depend on the keywords that you use to describe your blog/website or its content.

The simple approach for most people would be to guess the keywords that would probably attract readers to their blog/website. The problem with this approach is that your gut instincts may not always be correct, also because it is highly unlikely that one could cover all the necessary keywords needed to attract full based readers. I will therefore re-emphasize that it is extremely crucial to obtain the best keywords that best describe your blog/website and that can only be achieved by using the correct research tools.

For example, an exclusive cell phone store might bid for the key words or phrases “phone” but then they would be senselessly advertising on searches for “security phones” or “saxophones” as well.

It may seem to you as a good marketing strategy to use keywords that cover an overly broad market regardless of the fact that the product you sell will not necessarily target the needs of all these markets. It is important to, however, realize that although Google does not bill you on ad impressions (the number of times that your advertisement appears over a wide range of keyword searches), if your advertisement’s ratio of ad impressions to clicks is too high then Google will freeze your ads due to underperformance. By then your advertisement campaign would have long time suffered because Google also determines your advertisement’s position on the search engine depending on its performance i.e. the number of clicks that your advertisement recieves.

Google provides a useful keyword tool as part of Adwords but I would personally recommend that you use Wordtracker ( www.wordtracker.com ) to research keywords and spot those that are best suited for a given advertising campaign.

To end of, keep in mind that ad click performance will ultimately determine your advertisement’s position on Google. It is better to have your advertisement placed less often but have a good click-through rate than to have your advertisement placed more often with less click-through rates. After all, the whole point of Adwords is to generate more traffic and no clicks to your blog/website means no traffic!
