When you are at the show, remember, when choosing an instant notification system:

• Be aware of the difference between instant notification and mass notification systems. Instant notification systems are triggered by personnel at the outset of an incident. They communicate directly with first responders. Mass notification systems are intended for first responders to trigger once they have identified the type of incident that is ongoing and have determined what information to share with the broader community.
• Identify who within the responding law enforcement agency or security department has the authority to permit alarm messages to be transmitted over the radio network. That individual should be engaged in the discussion of systems from the outset.
