Steel
Did you know production of steel requires the mining of iron ore AND metallurgical coal? You read that correctly, coal is required to make steel; a surprising fact for many, because it is almost always referred to as only an energy source. The next time you climb in your Chevrolet, Ford, Hyundai, Toyota, Honda, or brand of your choice, remember that the frame could only have been built with steel if both iron ore and metallurgical coal had been mined. Your safety and the car’s basic structure both rely on steel created from the resources extracted through mining operations. The ‘cherry-on-the-top’ is the fact that steel is 100% recyclable for infinite reuse!

Copper
Copper is another product of mining operations that is directly used every day in some form by every American. When you flip on a light switch, electricity flows along copper wiring to turn the lights on. Regardless of whether you are an Apple iPhone fanatic or you love your Samsung Galaxy, the cell phone in your hand requires copper and many other metals to keep you connected. So the next time you post a picture to Instagram, an update to Facebook, or a video to YouTube; just remember that mining operations helped make that possible. Without the ongoing development of the mining industry, the United States economy would come to a grinding halt.
