It is that time of year once again. Christmas is right around the corner and what better way to get into the festive spirit than to get your Christmas Lights hung.
Putting up the Christmas lights can be a daunting task. Here is our “Hot To” guide to help you.
Plan Your Design
Make sure you know what you are getting into. Nothing worse than being half way through and not having everything you need. Prepare before hand!
How many extension cables do you need?
Do you need spare bulbs?
Where is the closet electrical outlet?
Are your lights rated for outdoor use?
Check The Weather Forecast.
Measure, Measure , Measure.
Organise Your Lights
You do not want to be on your roof having to untangle bundles of lights. Take some time and have everything laid out properly.
TEST YOUR LIGHTS ON THE GROUND
Check for damage, dispose of older lights. Safety first!
Do you have the right spread of colours and bulb types.
Check you have all the clips you need. Some may have broken while being stored.
Consider moving to more energy efficient lights as you replace older ones.
Getting Started
My personal preference is to start with bushes, then trees, any windows, the doors and finally the roofline. Take the time to check each segment to make sure everything looks balanced.
Use a light-hanging pole for trees.
If you have to use a ladder make sure you have someone to spot you.
Save Energy – Use A Timer
Nobody wants to wake up in the morning and realize they forget to shut the lights off. Consider buying a timer!
The Grand Unveiling
This part is easy and the most fun
Step 1: Make Hot Chocolate
Step 2: Gather The Family Outside
Step 3: Flip The Switch
