Non-Allowable Checklist

Moving is a huge ordeal. You want to move everything as much as possible. If you’re having a moving company Transport your belongings, it is important to know that there are certain things they will not move. They are known as “Non Allowable Items.” Movers do not want to become liable if your things becomes damaged during the move.  Here are a list of “Non Allowable Items” that you should keep in mind that moving companies won’t transport.

What Moving Companies Won’t Move

  • Hazardous Materials. Hazardous materials can be corrosive, flammable, and explosive. It is recommended to dispose these contents appropriately. Make sure to contact your city or county in disposing them. Just remember, if you can’t throw it away in your regular trash collection or ship it, your movers probably will not move it. Here are some examples of hazardous materials.
  • Acids
  • Aerosols
  • Car Batteries
  • Cleaning Solvents
  • Fertilizer
  • Fire Extinguisher
  • Fireworks
  • Gasoline
  • Lamp Oil
  • Loaded Guns
  • Nail Polish
  • Nail Polish Remover
  • Paints
  • Pesticides
  • Pool Chemicals
  • Propane Tank
  • Plants. Movers will not move plants. It is illegal to transport plants without a special license. The reason is that pests, like Emerald Ash Borer, can fetch a ride to go to your new home and spread at the new area. This will cause you to spend more time and money trying to get rid of them. Here is an example of a plant movers will not transport.

 

  • Marijuana Plants
  • Perishable Foods. Moving companies will not transport perishable foods, because it can attract rats and pests. This will cause your valuables to be damaged. It can also get spoiled through the duration of the move. It is best that you consume the foods before your move. This will be less packing and grocery shopping. Here are examples of perishable foods.
  • Frozen Foods
  • Refrigerated Foods
  • Produce
  • Opened Foods
  • Pets. Movers will not transport your pets. It is better that you transfer your pet on the move, so your pet can feel secure and safe.
  • Power Equipment containing Fuel. Movers will not transport any power equipment containing a fuel tank, due to the high risk of fire, while moving. If you would like the movers to transport the items, make sure to drain the fuel or run the items until it is completely empty. Make sure to perform this task at least 24 hours before loading. Here are examples of power equipment containing fuel.
  • Lawn Mowers
  • Weed Whackers
  • Motorcycle
  • Generators
  • Power Saw

It is important to always do your research to know which items the movers will and will not move. It is better to be safe than sorry.
