This has put pressure on the Government and many companies to look urgently on the packaging products they use and how they can reduce the amount of packaging as well as create a more environmentally packaging option.

Here are a few things that companies are looking at changing:

            - For many products the use of Food wrap could be removed completely with items such as fresh
             fruit like bananas, apples etc.
           - Food trays can be made from biodegradable cardboard dramatically reducing the impact of this
             product going to landfill

• Using recycled materials such as recycled plastics and cardboard products. This helps to reduce the amount of packaging going to landfill by reusing as much as possible.

• Custom packaging ensures that you are using the minimal amount of packaging required to protect your product. This also has the benefit of giving the product a better appearance and can save on shipping & storage costs.

It should also be noted that sometimes there are reasons why plastics are used for packaging from giving the correct product protection to extending the shelf life of a product. The new initiatives are to reduce plastic packaging but, in some cases, it is essential to still use plastic to get the optimal product protection.
