Should I Buy a Used iPhone?

Buying a used iPhone can either turn out to be a saving or a costly purchase. In fact, sometimes buying a used iPhone is more expensive than buying a new one. How so? Often when people buy a used phone they only consider the surface problems such as a cracked screen. This is a mistake, there may be deeper problems with the phone that need to be replaced and are expensive. However, this is not always the case. In our new post, we discuss what to look out for when considering purchasing a used iPhone.

Consider the Current Condition

When buying a used phone, always examine the current condition of the phone. Does it still look relatively new? Is it roughened up against the edges? These are important factors to look out for because it can signify the lifeline of the phone. However, just because an iPhone is in a poor condition doesn’t mean it’s not functional or does not work. If you are going to be purchasing a used phone, you may as well buy one that still looks presentable.

 Don’t Buy a Fake Phone

How exactly do you spot a fake iPhone? Essentially, you want to look at the back side of the phone and ensure it says, ‘Designed by Apple in California’. If this is not apparent, the iPhone, may be fake. Another way to check if the iPhone is fake is by examining the OS, by going to Settings > General > About and look at the version. This is usually a dead giveaway as it confirms its supported by iOS software.

 Check the Camera

Whenever you are in the process of buying a used iPhone, always check the camera and ensure the quality is up to standard. Also, check the video quality to confirm that everything is still intact and working properly. Often when buying a used phone, the original Apple sensor within the camera has either been damaged or has been removed. This will be apparent by the quality of the phots the phone can take.

 Check the Battery Life

To check the battery life of an iPhone, turn the brightness up to 100% and turn on the WiFi and Bluetooth. Then, use the phone’s apps and make a few calls. If the battery has dropped rapidly by 5% in a few minutes, there may be a battery issue. There are multiple battery checker apps within the app store that can notify you of the performance of your battery if you want to have a better understanding of how well it’s working.
