How to Launch a Startup With No Money or Experience

Simple tips to help you launch your startup

If you are thinking of launching your own Startup, then you are probably doing it out of opportunity rather than necessity. This is generally the case with all entrepreneurs. However, just like many, you might be overwhelmed with the Idea of the launch especially if you lack money and experience.

This is why today we will share with you some tips to help you get started. Just sit back and enjoy this educational and light read.

How to launch a startup 101:

  • Pick an idea that comes naturally to you

Many entrepreneurs set out to pursue ideas that they are passionate about. This is a bit risky and might not work because passion can only take you so far. However, to truly succeed, you need to build your business around something you are naturally good at. So, for example, if you are an outgoing person with lots to say, consider making videos or starting a podcast. On the other hand, if you are well organized and need to work from home, you can choose to become a virtual assistant.

  • Spot problems & trends

Many startups fail because their founders neglect to spot trends and figure out where the real problems are. For example, knowing that many small businesses suffer with social media can be a great opportunity for you to help them out. The more you are able to spot trends and problems, the more you will be able to create solutions that people want and need.

  • Use prototypes & launch

If you have a great idea and you keep delaying launching it until it is ‘perfect’, you might lose interest and your project might never see the light of day. This is why you should create a prototype of your idea and launch it. However, you need to make sure that your prototype is something that people will want to pay for cheaply and quickly.

  • Know what your customers want

Failing to recognize what your customers are looking for in your product will cause you to fail. Just look at Kodak and how it went bankrupt back in 2012 because it was unable to pivot fast enough to the digital world. Avoid loving your idea too much that you are unwilling to improve it with testing and experiments. Moreover, always keep your customer in mind whenever you are making any changes to your product.

  • Test & optimize your prices

Most startups fail to have the right price structure; their prices are either too high or too low. To avoid this pitfall, you need to test your prices to ensure demand. If people aren’t willing to pay for your product, you either shut it down or do a massive change. However, if your product sells well, then you are ready to scale.

  • Scale using free & paid advertising

Once you are sure your product is good, it is time to scale it using free viral marketing and paid advertising. For free viral marketing, use humor, controversy or drama to polish your idea and get it out there. After your product goes viral, use paid advertising to make sure that your idea will resonate with your audience.

  • Rely on mentors

No matter how good you are, you will always need a mentor to cut your learning curve and answer questions you can’t answer yourself. This is why it is important to have a mentor or a trainer to guide you through the process. I have personally found Women in Business to be a great source of mentors who are there all the time willing to provide you with valuable tips, answers and guidance, all for free!
