Roku Stick Remote not working: troubleshooting steps

Roku stick remote not working: Depending on which Roku streaming stick model you are using, you could have one of the two remotes that re Standard IR Remote or Enhanced point anywhere remote. The standard IR remote uses invisible infrared light to transmit remote key presses. To make your IR remote work properly, it must be pointed directly at the device and there must be nothing that blocks the traveling of the signal from remote to your Roku device. Whereas enhanced point anywhere remotes connect to your wireless network and do not need to be pointed directly at the Roku device for working. Here are the troubleshooting steps for both type of remotes:

Standard IR Remote

This type of remotes needs to be pointed directly towards Roku device for working properly. The most common reason for the missed keypress is when the Roku device is located at the place the signal from the remote is blocked fully or partially. The second most common reason is low or dead batteries. For solving the issues with IR remote follow these steps:

  • Make sure that you can see the front of your Roku device from where you are sitting and there is no visible obstacle between the device and remote. if possible move your Roku device to a place where the remote will respond reliable.
  • Try to reset the batteries of your remote if the remote is still not responding.
  • If the remote is still not working, then try to replace the batteries in your remote with a new one and try to use it.
  • If you feel or think that your remote is broken, then you can buy it from Roku accessory store.

Enhanced point anywhere Remote

The enhanced point anywhere remote connects over a wireless network and do not need to be pointed directly at the Roku device. During the initial setup, this remote establishes a connection with your Roku device, this process is called pairing. For solving the issues with this remote follow these steps:

  • Open the battery compartment and remove the batteries from the remote. Remove the power cable from the Roku device, wait for 5 seconds, and then reconnect the power cable. When the Roku device displays the home screen, reinsert the batteries. Wait for 30 seconds while the remote establishes a connection with your Roku device.
  • If this doesn’t work, follow the above step again and after reinserting the batteries press and hold the pairing button on the remote for 3 seconds or until you see the pairing light in the remote starts flashing. If the light is not flashing, then you will need to replace your batteries. If light starts flashing then wait for 30 seconds while the remote establishes a connection and remote pairing dialog box will appear.
  • Open the battery compartment and remove the batteries from the remote. Remove the power cable from the Roku device, wait for 5 seconds, and then reconnect the power cable. When the Roku device displays the home screen, insert new batteries. Wait for 30 seconds while the remote establishes a connection with your Roku device and a and remote pairing dialog box will appear.
  • If none of the steps, solve your issue, then you may need to buy a new Roku remote from the Roku accessory store.
