Alien Accountant

It’s important to have a good Accountant, but, my god, what a unique species they are. If it’s on a spreadsheet, in black and white – with a mouse in hand – an accountant is comfortably at home. Safe in a world of numbers and a bright screen.
Visiting my accountant is like a trip to see the head teacher – if i think I’ve done well at one particular point, I leave feeling like I haven’t done my best and I could do ‘so much better’ with more attention to detail.

Any visit to help cure a sticky situation convinces me I’m going to doing time in Dartmouth prison for the next 15 years.
I assume, formative years, learning their trade amongst sitting accountants makes these numbers seem so clear – on one particular visit I remember talking to one of my accountants assistants; ‘Do you have the funds available to pay the VAT by the end of this month?’. It was a tight month being honest, without an overdraft it was going to be a bit of a stretch. ‘No, not at the second’, I replied with a positive tone. ‘Why not?’ came the reply, ‘it isn’t your money….’ the dead pan rebuttal cemented their place in a separate universe to this self employed man!
