SYNOPSIS:

Lord Jeremy Landon, Earl of Bennington, spent the last ten years rebuilding the ruined earldom he inherited from his scandal-ridden uncle. He has one final debt to repay. In lieu of money, though, he is manipulated into marrying a spinster…
Lady Eliza Burke is tired of living under the rule of a tyrannical mother. She’ll do anything to escape, even marry a man she doesn’t know—and a man her mother despises. Eliza doesn’t believe herself destined for love. Lord Bennington doesn’t believe he’s destined for happiness. Both are about to be tested by a scandal that could tear them apart forever.

REVIEW

Quite a good read from a new-to-me author!I wasn't really in the mood for a HR Book and definitely not one that was the third book in a series from a completely new author. But, something urged me to read this book and I just did, and it was definitely enjoyable!

Both Jeremy and Eliza were great main characters! They did test my patience at times, but it was worth it!Jeremy just wanted to right the past wrongs. And though he's all tough on the outside, he's such a softie inside.Eliza is strong, determined and stubborn. She's ready to give up her freedom to ensure her cousin's happiness. Its not like she's had a great past with a controlling mother. She has a few secrets to hide too.But will she trust Jeremy with them?

This was a wonderful book that can be easily read as a standalone. And now after reading this, I definitely want to find out more about this series and read all the books! Can't wait to read more from this author!

EXCERPT

He braced himself. He’d worked too hard for too long to allow another scandal to harm the family. Unwittingly, he’d found himself in the middle of one. Marriage by deceit. That he could never forgive.
“I’m not Lady Rushworth’s ward.”
“No?” He didn’t feign surprise.
“No.”
Jeremy scowled, finally able to voice the question plaguing him since his conversation with young Hart. “Then who are you?”
It was a devil of a thing to have to ask one’s own wife. But he sincerely didn’t know.
“I’m her daughter.”
