Living in Cyprus: A Pat on his Back

Old cover image

Though my blog posts about Living in Cyprus have now morphed into four volumes of books on that subject, the original book that sparked off the current four volumes is A Pat on his Back. This book is more about the nitty-gritty of moving to Cyprus from England and experiencing the culture shock that involved.

Something as simple as buying a bottle of milk took a round trip lasting forty minutes. Not to mention the language barrier and on top of that the 2008 worldwide financial meltdown happened as we arrived on the island! Then low and behold, in order not to feel left out, Cyprus itself needed bailing out by the EU, only a few years later.

From the humble beginnings of learning to clean a pool to the frightening experience of a national guard helicopter slicing through an electric cable on a pylon in the valley, causing a fire and thousands of Euros in damage.

Now we have to face an unknown future as the UK leaves the EU. As my wife and I are both in our sixties, health cover is of the utmost importance, but we have no idea if that will happen on the UK’s departure.

Culture shock? You bet. Would we change anything? Nope, we love it here.

On offer for a brief period, A Pat on his Back is now reduced from $3.99 to $0.99 – so get it while you can.
