                   A VOLUPTOUSVOLCANO

It is a voluptuous volcano
Spewing forth a season’s imprint
Lushes scenery capture the mind
Enthralling, it stir up the broth of passion
Languid lasciviousness lashes out its fang
Its scintillating scent linger
Odd romance with the air
Like lovers apart for a while

A celebration of life
Life on a platter of gold
Supple caresses of the wind
As I pluck an apparel to wear
Embedded hopes come alive
Resurrected verdant greenery
Stamp an imprint
Due process in due season proceed
That we might convalesce in its warmth
Ruptured beauty spilling its cream
And sunbath await.

AUTHOR’S NOTE
This is a poem I like to read again and again, without getting bored. It is a poem about spring, and all the warmth, joy beauty, hope and other emotions it brings. I don’t know about you but this is the favourite time of the year for me. Watching dried up and withered plants spring to life, always evoke some emotions in me. I am not just talking about the beauty of the scenery, I believe the poem is more about the hope the season brings to all living things on earth.
And in my country, spring coincides with Easter season, and as a Christian we all know what Easter means to every Christian. I wrote this poem during a difficult phase of my life, I was passing through some challenges and my pen has dried up. But watching plant life spring up from the balcony of my house in Ibadan, actually resurrected new hopes in me, and my pen started flowing once again. I wrote this poem and so many more; continue writing of a novel I had abandoned, ‘Emma, The Child Prostitute’.
So what I wrote here was what I experienced on that day, just gazing out from my balcony. My house in Ibadan has a large expanse of land at the back, and sometimes watching plant and animal lives has become something of a fascination to me. How I miss the serenity of my balcony, I no longer reside in Ibadan. I now live in Lagos, some two hundred kilometers from Ibadan. And where I live in Lagos, such verdant scenery is a scarce commodity.
There is a question I want to ask here, is everyone’s life on a platter of gold? If you read the poem, you will see where I mentioned it. ‘Life on a platter of gold’. So what celebration of life am I talking about here? I do firmly believe that everyone’s life is on a platter of gold. But some have refused to accept the salver of gold that life is offering them. I dwelled on challenges in life and how some people cope with it extensively in one of my author’s note, on the poem, ‘The Tartan Army’, check it out at this link- http://www.okeyeni.com/2012/09/poem-of-day-002-tartan-army_9.html
The message in essence that I was trying to pass along in this poem is that even wild plants that appears to have died and dried up at it’s due season resurrects and come back to life. So when you are down and out and hope seems lost, just hang in there, it is just a passing phase, it’s just a season of your life. Just like the dead plants resurrected at its due season, so will you also bounce back, if you don’t give up hope. If those dried up plants gave up hope, they will never spring back to life.
Finally let me round up by urging you to once more log on to amazon.com to purchase the e-book of this collection of poems. It is titled, ‘Nostalgia A Collection of Poems’, the link is - http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007T8TYI0/ref=as_li_ss_til?tag=okeeniandco-20&camp=213381&creative=390973&linkCode=as4&creativeASIN=B007T8TYI0&adid=0ECSV4JPQQ078B4KFVCE&&ref-refURL=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.okeyeni.com%2F2012%2F09%2Fpoem-of-day-002-tartan-army_9.html
