Our publication date today, February 10, 2018, is exactly 110 years since the U.S. Army Signal Corps signed a formal contract with the Wright Brothers for the very first U.S. military airplane.
As we've written, Harry Houdini was one of the world's earliest aviators and played a significant role in aviation history, both military and civilian. That's a fact not well-known to the general public, but we ourselves did not know until today that Houdini's flying achievements were actually commemorated on a ten-dollar coin issued in 2003 by the Republic of Liberia. As you can see, he's right up there with the Wright Brothers and Charles Lindbergh, commemorating the centennial of aviation.
