City of Ghosts (Cassidy Blake #1)-Book Review

Cassidy Blake’s parents are The Inspectres, a (somewhat inept) ghost-hunting team. But Cass herself can REALLY see Ghosts. In fact, her best friend, Jacob, just happens to be one.

When The Inspectres head to ultra-haunted Edinburgh, Scotland, for their new TV show, Cass—and Jacob—come along. In Scotland, Cass is surrounded by ghosts, not all of them friendly. Then she meets Lara, a girl who can also see the dead. But Lara tells Cassidy that as an In-betweener, their job is to send ghosts permanently beyond the Veil. Cass isn’t sure about her new mission, but she does know the sinister Red Raven haunting the city doesn’t belong in her world. Cassidy’s powers will draw her into an epic fight that stretches through the worlds of the living and the dead, in order to save herself.

MY THOUGHTS

“Embrace your strange, dear daughter. Where’s the fun in being normal?”

Spooky and Horror movies don’t scare me so I never tried to read the same genre, Finally, I caved as everyone is reading something spooky. I ‘ve never read Schwab work before so I decided to give a chance to this genre.

The Story is about Cassidy who can see and talk to dead people or say ghosts, she can travel to another world, Even her Best friend is a ghost who saved her when she was about to die in an accident.

“Every time I get nervous or scared, I remind myself that every good story needs twists and turns. Every heroine needs an adventure.”

It is a middle-grade story so I never expected it to be super horror, It was fun to read and writing made it even more interesting. It was set in Edinburgh so a different vibe, I loved the concept of the story and the whole new world.

Unlike every other YA, Here parents got the role, not that much but it was relatable as their job was like that. Jacob is no doubt an interesting character and a good friend. Other characters were also well written.

I enjoyed the book, I’ll try another spooky read

“Stories have power,” she says. “So long as you believe them.”
