The Diviners by Libba Bray | REVIEW & DISCUSSION

Hey, guys! I am super excited to talk about this Book that I have been trying to finish since 2015, and that is The Diviners by Libba Bray. This is a book that may have taken me forever to read, but I absolutely loved it. I don’t think I was mature enough to really appreciate the story when I originally picked it up because I was like a junior or senior in high school, but I am just in awe of this captivating, thrilling and creepy story. I loved every second of it, and I highly recommend you pick it up! But let’s go ahead and jump right into the review!

Synopsis:

“Evangeline O’Neill has been exiled from her boring old hometown and shipped off to the bustling streets of New York City–and she is ecstatic. It’s 1926, and New York is filled with speakeasies, Ziegfeld girls, and rakish pickpockets. The only catch is that she has to live with her uncle Will and his unhealthy obsession with the occult. Evie worries he’ll discover her darkest secret: a supernatural power that has only brought her trouble so far.

When the police find a murdered girl branded with a cryptic symbol and Will is called to the scene, Evie realizes her gift could help catch a serial killer. As Evie jumps headlong into a dance with a murderer, other stories unfurl in the city that never sleeps. And unknown to all, something dark and evil has awakened…”

My Thoughts:

This book was so freaking good! It took me like a billion reads to finally finish it, but I am so glad I decided to read it. This book just makes you feel like you are in 1920s New York. It was just such an atmospheric read!

The plot was so freaking creepy but also amazing. It was so complex and I have no idea how this story can get creepier but I have the next book, so I imagine I will come to find that out. There were so many characters and they were all developed so well. I honestly don’t have a favorite because I love all of them!

With that said, one thing I did not like about this book was the romance. Mostly it’s because I know this is going to be a love triangle and I am firmly team opposite of who she ends up within this book. So I am holding out hope that Evie will wake up and realize that’s not someone she really wants to be with.

But overall, the writing was gorgeous, the plot was pretty terrifying, and the characters were incredibly well developed. I definitely plan on continuing on with the series and I am so excited to see where we go next in the next installment to this fantastic series!

And there you have it! That was my review of The Diviners. What is your favorite historical period? Comment down below! I would love to know. And that is going to be it for this review today. Thank you all so much for reading this, I hope you enjoyed it, and I will see you next time!
