Hey, guys! I am super excited to talk about a Movie that recently hit the box office, Black Panther. This is a Marvel movie that takes place just after Captain America: Civil War and prior to the events of Avengers: Infinity War. I wasn’t sure if I was going to see this since I am not a huge fan of the Avengers, but my girlfriend really wanted to see it, so we went, and it was absolutely fabulous. If you are hesitant to go due to the hype surrounding the movie, I highly recommend you take the plunge and go and see it because I just fell in love with it.

Synopsis:

“After the death of his father, T’Challa returns home to the African nation of Wakanda to take his rightful place as king. When a powerful enemy suddenly reappears, T’Challa’s mettle as king — and as Black Panther — gets tested when he’s drawn into a conflict that puts the fate of Wakanda and the entire world at risk. Faced with treachery and danger, the young king must rally his allies and release the full power of Black Panther to defeat his foes and secure the safety of his people.”

My Thoughts:

One thing that I definitely wasn’t expecting to see in this movie was the humor. I was laughing my ass off throughout the majority of the movie. There were just so many good jokes, and a lot of that humor is due to Black Panther’s younger sister, Shuri. She is so sassy and sarcastic, and I absolutely Loved her character. She was definitely my favorite character out of the whole movie just because of how hilarious she was.

In addition to the general humor of Shuri and the dynamic of her and Black Panther, I thought it was hilarious how much white humor there was. There are always jokes in movies at the expense of the African American community, so Black Panther just kind of throws it back at them. They aren’t even shy about it, which I loved it. There is even a scene where one of the people of Wakanda says to one of the white characters in the film, “Don’t scare me, colonizer!” and it was absolutely hysterical. They hold nothing back in this movie, and I freaking loved it.

I also just really loved all of the characters. Most I just loved, others I would love to punch in the face, and I just absolutely adored all of them. They were all so well developed, and they each have their own unique personality. I especially loved seeing the dynamic between the Black Panther and his sister Shuri. They both tease each other to no end, but there is still a deep love and respect between the two of them, and I just loved seeing them interact.

This kind of goes without saying, but I absolutely loved the representation in this movie. I loved that it was set in Africa and almost the entire cast were people of color. We finally are breaking the mold of Marvel movies with people of color, and I just loved seeing it. While I obviously cannot speak to the representation of African culture in this movie as I am a pasty white, American bitch, but I thought it looked really well-done.

Can we just talk about the cinematography for a moment? All I can say is just damn. The aesthetics of this movie were so beautiful. The setting and the look of the movie was just absolutely breathtaking. Typically when I think of Africa, I just think of poverty and a really hot desert. But this movie was so full of color and life, and I just absolutely loved it.

Overall, this was just an absolutely fabulous movie, and I highly recommend it. I definitely would give this an A+, and it is definitely going to be on my favorites list for this year. If you are scared of this movie because of the hype, I promise it is totally worth it because this movie is absolutely incredible!
