No Deal’s Done ‘til It’s Done by Simon Fairfax

In the 1980’s, London is the land of property deals that make or break careers. When Rupert Brett begins working as a surveyor, he’s ambitious but naive. He quickly discovers he’s entered a world where knowledge is the true currency.

Developer Paul Simions is at the heart of many unscrupulous real estate deals. With a group of hired thugs, he’s been manipulating markets and bribing officials. By the time Rupert realises what Paul’s doing, it’s too late – the developer frames him as the prime suspect in a murder investigation.

To clear his name, Rupert risks everything as a double agent. But can Rupert outwit the criminal mastermind or face the consequences if he doesn’t?

Rating:

When I discovered Simon Fairfax as an author, I didn’t know what to expect. And truth be told, even when I finished reading this book, I was still in shock a little.

More importantly, this was a debut novel for this author so it was a fresh slate, who knew how it was going to turn out!

So let’s lay the groundwork;

Rupert is a newly qualified chartered surveyor in 1980s London. As he starts to get to grips with how the surveyor world works, he stumbles across something bigger than he expected.

Hooked?

I will be honest, Chartered Surveying isn’t my thing, so I was a little apprehensive when I started reading. I mean, how can you turn chartered surveying into a full-fledged crime thriller? Yeah, I wasn’t sure it could be done either.

Alas, I was wrong.

This is a great read for those who are looking for something different – step out of your comfort zone a little. I loved the characters we got to meet and how you get to know them throughout the story.

The changes in perspective keep you on your toes and the fast-paced plot will keep you turning the page. As you get deeper into the conspiracy, you’ll find that you really can’t put it down. Can Rupert thwart the bad guys? Can he overcome a multi-million pound conspiracy and bring it crashing down?

Well, I won’t give it away.

Let’s just say, I enjoyed this so much, I couldn’t wait to read the next in the series. And as you’ll guess, a review will follow shortly because – believe it or not – it was even better.
