Back to School Must-haves: Footies

THE BIRKENSTOCKS

These are probably the most comfortable things to have in your footies collection as a student. Yes, I know what you’re thinking, aren’t these beach sandals? Well yes and no.

Birkenstocks are not only super-duper comfy, but they’re incredibly versatile too. You can pair them with plain trousers and a button down shirt/t-shirt for that sophisticated minimalistic editor look, or you could dress them down with denim (preferably ripped) pants or shorts for an easy breezy look. If for nothing at least grab a pair for those 8 to 4 back to back lecture days and trust me you’ll be sending me a thank you note.

THE CHUCK TAYLOR CONVERSE

Converse!!!! They’re my favorite pair of shoes in the world, well partly because I still can’t afford the new Yeezys so I’ll settle. These are probably the most popular pair of shoes in the student community, I mean everyone has one and if you don’t I already feel sad for you. It passes the three Cs test which means it’s comfortable, cool and costs little (I totally made that up, lol).

Although blacks are the most common converses available, the white and burgundy converse is a cool twist (it’s super rare to find, sorta like Arsenal winning a cup) when paired with denim trousers, shorts or skirts and ups your cool factor by like a 100 points. These are probably the only pair of shoes that you could have in common with folks like Kylie Jenner and Bryson Tiller.

THE BOOTS

Have you ever put on a pair of shoes and felt like a completely different person? Kinda like you could run the world (okay maybe that’s pushing it too far) or generally kick ass? Well, that incredible boost in self-confidence can be purchased in a store and they’re known as boots. From laced up leather boots to suede Chelsea boots, the variety is endless and they appeal to the different looks you want to achieve. From the polished look of the Chelsea to the gritty rock star makeover a pair of laced up boots could give your outfit, you can never go wrong with a pair of boots in your collection. PS: Try not to step on anyone because the pain, trust me hurts like hell.

THE TRAINERS

Fashion is complicated and ever changing, it constantly challenges to push ourselves and try new things. That Meredith Grey-like intro is for one of my favorite fashion staples, the trainers. Now let’s drop the fancy name and be honest these are running shoes or what we called “canvas” when we were kids, I know right, how time flies. Next to the Chuck Taylors, these are the most comfortable pair of shoes a student could have although not as affordable. Don’t get me wrong, trainers are not pricey well except you’re going for limited edition kicks, which if you are I’m seething in jealousy.

From Nikes to New Balance there’s a pair of trainers for everyone, and you could comfortably style it with a skirt or dress for that chic luxe sporty look or the guys could pair it with literally anything in their closet and pull it off (Tip: it works better if the pants are cuffed).
