Ferris Wheels, Hope And Purple Lights

From a distance, I admired the view.

For I had always dreamt of Ferris Wheels.

I was fascinated by the way they moved.

Slow and gentle.

Allowing you to breathe in the depth of the sky.

It was powerful, that rotating wheel.

Full of hope.

After all, it could stop time.

No wonder then, that it was most people’s dream.

To sit within those tiny chambers,

with the ones that they loved.

Appreciating the little things that life had to offer-

Gelato, a chance to take the perfect picture,

Or having a second to truly look into each other’s eyes

and pour their hearts out.

It wasn’t just about watching the beautiful bridge

that connected two cities

Or gasping as the water reflected the bright Purple Lights.

It was also about the thrill of the escape.

From everything that stood still below.

Those endless reasons that stood between

What you wished you could do and what you needed to instead.

At some point, you would be there-

Right at the top.

Able to stare at the moon and watch the stars.

To try and look for symmetrical lines that formed

what they call constellations.

The ones with the funny names.

The ones that are always hard to find.

And that’s when you would completely forget

it all – the worries, the questions the continuous

search for something better.

All of that would be replaced by laughter.

As you cracked those ridiculous jokes.

Used those bathroom singing skills

And talked about life.

Then at some point, it would be time.

To descend back into the madness.

To face the uncertainty of what tomorrow

might bring.

And someday you would come back.

And just stand there, staring at it-

that Ferris wheel.

Just like me.

Thanking it for letting you see what truly mattered.

And as always, it would give you hope.

Because it would remind you of that moment.

When everything wasn’t necessarily perfect.

But it was exactly what you needed it to be…
