Easy Ways to Update Your Wardrobe on a Budget

Collaborative Content

Are you tired of wearing the same old things and looking to update your wardrobe? That could be easier said than done if you are living on a budget, but it’s not impossible. You just have to think about ways you can save Money to let you make your Wardrobe be more as you want it.

Check Out Your Closet

The first thing to do is go through your closet. How many things are shoved to the back that you have not worn for years? How many items have you forgotten you have? Some of these things could be altered slightly by adding new buttons, taking a couple of hinges off the length and maybe dying them a different color.

You might even find exactly what you are looking for without having to do anything to it at all.

Make A List

Make a list of everything you think you need in your wardrobe and then cross of the items you already have.  Look closely at what is left on the list and decide if you really need it.

You might need to make a choice between a new pair of jeans and a new top, but at least you will be doing that while you are thinking rationally and not in a panic while you are in the Store.

Leave The Credit Cards At Home

Set yourself a budget of how much you have to spend draw it in cash from an ATM. Leave the credit cards at home so that you cannot be tempted to spend more than you have. Cash can also sometimes get you a better price, especially if you are shopping in a market or thrift shop.

Head For Clearance Racks

Clearance racks are usually at the back of the stores with the latest additions to their stock at the front. This is to try and entice people in. The clearance rack could have something you want at less than half the normal price. Even things that have become soiled are often sold much cheaper, but that does not mean the stain or mark will not come out when the garment is washed.

Will It Let You Mix And Match?

Whatever you buy should be wearable with at least three other items in your wardrobe as mixing and matching garments gives you so many more outfits. If it will only match one skirt or pair of trousers, put the top back and find one that will do better.

Sign Up For Special Offers

Most clothing stores have some sort of reward scheme in place. It could be that you have to collect points to get a discount on your next purchase, or they might send you vouchers codes so you can get a price reduction straight away. You can also see more here in terms of discounts. However they do it, reward schemes are something that can help you to reduce the amount of money you have to spend to freshen your wardrobe of clothes.

Browse Around The Thrift Stores

There will always be people who wear things once or twice and then decide to give them away. Generally, there is nothing wrong with them and you can pick up some real bargains in thrift stores.  It is not unusual for there to be designer clothes on their racks, ones that from anywhere else you would not be able to afford.

Avoid Trends – You Are Shopping For You

Fashions and trends are great if you have the mo9ney to keep up to date with them. When you are on a budget they should be avoided. You are shopping for you, not for the local fashion magazine. Put comfort before anything else, and be an individual in the way you dress.

The problem with fashions is that in just a few months they fall out of favor and then you have to spend a whole lot of money updating your wardrobe again.

Have A Clothes Swap Evening

Invite a few friends that are in the same position as you and tell them to bring all the clothes they would like to replace. Have a bottle of wine and a few snacks, and see how many clothes you can swap with each other. This could save you all a lot of money, and makes the best use of things that are being discarded.

Look At Menswear

You should always look in the menswear section of stores. For some reason, the same t-shirt for men and women will be cheaper in the men’s section. This is a common thing that the stores tend to do and they no doubt have their reasons. You may also find that shirts and other clothes will be a better price and add something a bit different to your wardrobe.

Learn To Walk Away

If you are pondering whether to buy an item and really are not sure, you should put it back in the rack and walk away. If you don’t when you get home it will go into your wardrobe and possibly never be worn because you will always be unsure about it.

Get To Know The Store Staff

If you get to know the sales assistants you could well find they will let you know when a sale is about to happen so that you can be one of the first to go through the clothes and get the best picks. The problem will sales is that there is only ever a certain amount of items up for grabs, and if you do not get there until toward the end, the best of them will already be gone.

Check the Prices Online

Most stores have an online presence that sells exactly the same items as in their physical store. The difference can be the price, as often they are sold cheaper online. You need to watch out for shipping costs, as that can push the overall payment to more than the physical store. However, more and more of them are shipping for free if your address is with the US.

These are a drop in the ocean of the ways to save money when you are trying to freshen your wardrobe, but hopefully, these tips will help you on your way.
