October 2018 Kid Wonder review time!
If you haven’t heard, Kid Wonder is a monthly subscription box for children (ages 3 to 6) that encourages them to learn through play. Each box will consist of 5 individual activity kits that are all centered around a specific theme. It will also include an educational booklet based on that theme, along with a dress up costume and all of the materials needed to complete each craft/activity. Every theme is approved by an advisory board of parents, grandparents, care providers, and educators interested in encouraging play-based learning, and quality family time. (Note: Boxes for older kids are coming soon!)

Everything was shipped in a colorful box that matched October’s theme — “Animal Hospital”!

On top was a welcome note from the Kid Wonder mascot pup, Scout.
Activity Book
A full color activity book included plenty of information on what a veterinarian is/what they do, theme-inspired games, reading practice, and more.
All of the activity kits were divided up into their own bags with instruction cards and materials tucked inside each one.
Kit 1: Dress like a Vet!
Each kit came with a 2-sided instruction card with step-by-step directions for every activity. The first kit included activities to help your child dress like a veterinarian. It included a stethoscope kit, surgical mask, name tag, mirror headband, and dress up shirt.
Let’s Make a Stethoscope!
The first activity was to make your own pretend stethoscope by using the headband and additional materials shown above.
Adding the final piece — the little red heart!
Let’s Make a Head Mirror!
Making the head mirror was as easy as applying the holographic sticker to the felt circle which was already attached to an elastic headband. To complete your outfit, there was also a cute dog-themed face mask, crayons to personalize a paper name tag, and a plastic name tag holder.

An adorable vet dress up t-shirt was also provided — complete with faux paw print pockets and a heart/medic symbol on the breast. Too cute!

Let’s Learn Animal Anatomy!
A short matching activity involved having your child match body part stickers to their corresponding images on the worksheet that briefly tells what each one does.
Of course she loved that all of the organs had cute faces.
V is for Vet Printable
Your child can practice their writing and do a color-by-number with this vet-themed activity sheet.
All 4 of the required crayon colors were also included in the box. Nice!
Kit 2: Pet Clinic!
The second kit had us painting wooden animals, making a vet briefcase, and playing an animal dice game.
Let’s Paint Animals!
Three wooden pieces — a veterinarian, a bunny, and a dog — were included with a set of paints, a paint brush, and a plastic apron. A “mess mat” was even provided to help keep your child’s workspace clean.
Both girls wanted to use purple and pink (of course), so this gave us a little lesson in making secondary colors.
Let’s Make a Vet Briefcase!
A colorful briefcase was to be assembled by simply folding the above cardstock according to the instructions on the info card. (Photos above show the inside and outside of the briefcase design.)
It turned out really cute! Plus, it’s held together with little circles of velcro making it extra sturdy.
Let’s Move like an Animal!
After assembling the paper die on the right (instructions on info card), your child was to roll it and match the face-up animal with its corresponding “action” on the “Move like an Animal” card.
Animal Count and Graph
An animal-themed activity sheet that involved counting the total amount of each animal, as well as graphing them on the chart underneath.
Kit 3: Time for your Check Up!
The third kit had your child setting up their own clinic and giving a little puppy a check up.

The first step in setting up your clinic was to fill out a business plan and review your check up sheet. A little mechanical pencil with blue paw prints was also provided.
Next, you needed to stock the medicine bottle with “pills”…
…organize your first aid kit with q-tips, felt bandage stickers, and cotton balls…
…and lay out all of the additional supplies — a blank prescription, syringe, tweezers, wooden craft stick, and felt “cone of shame”!
Let’s Give your Puppy a Check Up!
Uh oh! — Joey doesn’t feel good… Time for a check up! Your child can now use all of the vet supplies to nurse their new little friend back to health. 🙂
It appears he had some sort of ear injury that required bandaging.
He also got a “haircut” with the help of some tweezers.
Although his ailments didn’t seem too serious, poor Joey just couldn’t leave the vet without wearing the dreaded cone of shame. Aww.
Kit 4: Construct your X-Ray Machine!
The final kit had you setting up a pretend x-ray machine using the very box that everything came in.
Let’s Set up an X-Ray Machine!
First, you were to assemble a frame to hold your x-rays using the plastic sleeve and paper strips above.
Next, you were to insert the dog x-ray into the sleeve and place it over the top of the open box. A plastic tea light candle was to be placed inside to light up the image. Blank x-ray sheets and a black crayon were also provided for making your own x-ray images.

A reference sheet showed your child where many of the dog’s major bones could be found.
Let’s Stitch the Bunny’s Boo-Boo!
Using the red lacing string, your child could follow the numbers to “stitch bunny’s boo-boo”.

Another incredibly awesome (paw-some?) collection of activities from Kid Wonder box! My girls were SO excited to play vet and help nurse their new puppy friend back to health. The dress up props were adorable and they loved all the little first aid supplies. Such a fun box!
