...And this Country couldn't be more divided than what it is today. You see it everywhere everyday, whether on the news, your Social Media, websites, blogs, it is there, staring you in the face. People viciously attacking people, man against man, brother against brother. Blame gets passed around like a joint at a Grateful Dead concert. Go spend some time in the comments section of any political article an Yahoo! and see for yourself. Tens of thousands of commenters spitting vile filth at each other, spreading so much hate that would embarrass Satan himself. Hell, they even have it out with each other on articles that have nothing to do with politics. They come fully armed with their sack full of insults and fling their hate-filled bombs at anyone who dares give them a thumbs down.
Silly sheeple.
But why? Why so much hate? Why are we so divided? Somewhere along the lines, patriotism has died. We have forgotten the fact that we the people are all in this together. Aren't we supposed to be one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty, and justice for all? Nowadays you can't even say those words in our schools. And when you can't even recite the founding words of this once great country in our classrooms then you know all hope is lost.
So where did we go wrong? In the beginning, that's where. The blame lies partly on the formation and influence of political parties. George Washington, our country's first president, was the only president elected who had no party affiliation. John Tyler was the only other independent to serve as president. He was vice president to William Henry Harrison, a member of the Whig party, who died after only 32 days in office. George Washington had given a stern warning during his farewell speech about the destruction these political parties would bring to this country. We didn't listen.
So how does political parties destroy a country? Simple. They divide. They are designed to distract the public, as Washington so eloquently puts. They pit us against each other, forcing us to fight amongst ourselves, rather than fight those who mean to rule us. And while we are busy fighting amongst ourselves, they are silently passing laws through congress that strip us of our liberties. It's all a dog and pony act. You got these politicians, each representing their respective party, who stand before the public and convince them to believe one thing or another. Factor in multiple parties to generate a conflict of interest. Distract. Divide. Conquer.
These parties even have names for each other because, you know, name calling is completely mature and professional. I think it's a fair assumption that name calling makes up about 68% of all politics. When something isn't working just pass the blame blunt to the other party or the previous administration. That's what Obama supporters do best. Obama didn't wreck this country, it was all Bush's fault.
Liberals.
Conservatives.
Left wingers.
Right wingers.
The GOP (grand old party- aka republican)
The list goes on and on and there are far more insulting examples than what's provided here. But this post isn't about educating you on the childish political jargon. My children are more well behaved than all the fools that occupy our government today. These parties spend more time coming up with witty or catchy insults to make their opponents look bad than they do actually performing the job they were elected to do. It's all just an act, designed to give you the impression that they are hard at work. And to divide us all.
There are many things that would contribute to all this division and anger. The economy certainly plays a major role. The rich just keeping richer, the poor keep getting poorer and the middle class is nearly extinct. This fact of life has America in an uproar. On one hand you have the poor attacking the rich, wondering why they need so much money. The rich retaliate with "If you work hard enough you can have this much money", which is true, but only to a certain extent. Millions of Americans go to college, earn a degree, put in the hard work and still come up empty. And the middle class, what's left of it anyways, is asking why their wages remain stagnant while the cost of living is on the rise.
Then there's social media. Through social media, people are finding a voice who otherwise might not be heard without the use of social media. And of course everyone has a different opinion. People can flap their jaws with no consequence. And the vile hatred they pop off is out of control. Before the internet we all seemed to be on more common ground. Human interaction has changed since the internet. We've forgotten how to work together as a society, how to treat each other. Social media has destroyed society. Not so social now, is it?
And of course there's the banks. The banks own us all, and the politicians. Many of the these new laws passing through congress aren't even written by legislators. The bankers are writing these laws and are giving them to our representatives, accompanied by a big fat check of course. Obviously the beneficiaries of these bills are not We the People, but the bankers behind them. You have to be a billionaire to have any kind of influence in our political system. The problem with that is that all the wrong people are influencing our politicians. The average American citizen simply doesn't have a voice unless they got the money to back it. We don't have any money so there you go.
The bottom line is this...The division and inequality in America is taking us down a dark and dangerous path. Tune in next time when we discuss where that path might lead us.
