“A barn Door with hardware is a great way to create a feature within your home.

Installing Barn Door hardware is a great weekend DIY project.  You can use it to transform an existing door or cavity slider into a great design feature.

We’ve chosen Rustica Hardware which is handcrafted in the United States… which gives us peace of mind that we’re installing a quality product within our home.

There are so many hardware and door options on the Rustica website that you really can create a feature that’s unique to your own home.

Today we’re going to put together a Rustica Barn Door with hardware and show you just how easy it is to do it yourself.

With Rustica doors, there is the option to have your door delivered preassembled. We’ve chosen to put ours together ourselves.

But if we get stuck, we’ve got the instructions.

STEP 1: UNPACK CONTENTS AND LAY FLAT

Now we’ve got our door unpackaged it’s all laid out ready to go.

STEP 2: FIT USING TONGUE AND GROOVE

We’re going to start at the bottom corner which fits together with the tongue and groove…

TIP – START FROM THE BOTTOM AND WORK YOUR WAY UP

…And then we’re going to work our way up, piecing it all together.

STEP 3: LOCK THE CORNERS OFF

We are going to lock that corner off with these screws that come in the pack – and you’re also going to need a socket set.

STEP 4: INSERT 2-3 PIECES AND THEN THE CENTRE RAIL

Now that I’ve inserted the first few pieces, I’ve installed my centre rail and I’m going to move to the other side and start bringing them in from that angle.

TIP – INSERT ALL PIECES FOLLOWED BY TOP RAIL

As you move to the bottom corner, I’m going to start inserting all my pieces before I install my top rail.

STEP 5: SECURE SCREWS

Now that the final piece of the door is fitted, I’m going to secure it with the screws and then we can move into putting on the “X”s.

STEP 6: LAYOUT AND SCREW X PANELS

The finishing touch… which I’m going to lay up here now, screw on… and then we’re ready to hang our door.

Check out this amazing barn door – I’m so stoked how it’s all come together. It looks absolutely stunning!

So now we’ve got the door, it’s time to fit the hardware.

STEP 7: FIT THE HARDWARE

To establish my height and the centerline of the track, I’ve used the instructions which take into account the door height and gives us a 10mm tolerance at the bottom of the floor as well.

TIP – ALLOW 10MM TOLERANCE AT THE BOTTOM

So now that we’ve done that and I’ve got a starting point, we’re ready to go.

Because we knew we’re installing this beautiful barn door, I’ve installed extra timber supports in behind the plaster to take the weight.

Rustica also has a range of fixing options for existing buildings.

If your wall is not perfectly straight, unlike mine, you’re able to adjust these spacers so your track stays perfect.

TIP – SPRAY IT TO MATCH YOUR STYLING

In keeping with our white coastal color palette, we’ve decided to spray ours white.

Because our door is soo large, we’ve got 2 tracks which make up 4.2 meters.

STEP 8: ATTACH THE TRACKS AND JOINER

So now that I’ve got my joiner on, we’re ready to go with that second track.

STEP 9: INSTALL THE HANGERS

Now what I’ve got to do is install these hangars onto the door.

Keeping in mind that there is a certain distance that I want to maintain from the top of the wheel to the top of the door so that everything is going to fit… and is going to go smoothly.

STEP 10: INSTALL ANTI-JUMP BRACKET

One of the most important final steps is installing the anti-jump bracket… and this is to prevent the door from coming off its tracks which are particularly important when you have a door this big.

Well, here it is! The door is hung in all its glory and I gotta say it looks amazing!

It does look great.

And what I love most is it allows for a multipurpose space… so you can open this door right up and have it open to the family…

or you can close it off and have a really private room.

It’s like a functional piece of art.”
