How To Make Money Blogging As A Beginner

When I first started Blogging, I wanted to make Money Blogging as a beginner blogger right away. Who doesn’t, right? I thought that once I had my blog up and running, the whole world would immediately know who I was and I’d began to make money blogging.  This was not the case.

This post contains affiliate links. This means if you click on a link, I may receive a commission at no additional cost to you. Read my full disclosure here for more information.

If you want to make money blogging as a beginner, you need to understand the basics andthe fundamentals to make money blogging. It requires a framework and it requires patience and dedication.  Making money blogging isn’t hard at all if you have a solid plan to accomplish your goals.  We’ll dive deep into how you can make money blogging as a beginner and what it takes to make your first sale.

Blogging is one of the best things that I have done in my life. I love blogging and it truly has changed my life for the better. I was able to start making money from my blog as a beginner and I have grown through trial and error. In this post, I share with you what you need to know in order to make money blogging as a beginner. Yes, it is possible to make money blogging as a newbie. You just have to have patience and dedication to growing your blog into a money making machine.

Firstly, you need a blog. If you haven’t started a blog yet, I have a tutorial on starting a blog from scratch which you can check out here.

Do I Need To Create My Own Product To Make Money Blogging As A Beginner?

This is a question I get asked a lot. A lot of new bloggers think that they need to create a product to make money blogging as a beginner. You absolutely do not need to create a product as a beginner. As a matter of fact, I recommend you DO NOT create a product as a beginner blogger unless you understand your audience and know the number one problem they are willing to pay for to have solved.

If you don’t know that yet, there is no need to waste your time and create a product. You can still make money without your own product. This is what I did in the beginning. I created my own product for an audience I did not understand. I wasted a lot of time and money.  Don’t make my mistake.  Sell other people’s products first.

You can start by becoming an affiliate.  You can sign up to MaxBounty or Shareasale. These platforms have hundreds of merchants offering products and services you can offer to your audience and cover virtually all niches. For a step-by-step tutorial on signing up for an account with MaxBounty, you can check out my post here.

What Is Affiliate Marketing?

Affiliate marketing is selling other people’s products and services and receiving a commission in exchange for referring someone to that company’s product or service.  For example, if you are in the health and fitness niche, you blog about health and fitness. Maybe you’ve tried some weight loss supplements and you’ve seen great results.  You love the product and you want to promote this product to your audience, as it’s related to your niche.

You can reach out to the company directly to ask them if they have an affiliate program and see if they are willing to provide you with a commission for referring customers to buying their product.  You can also sign up for affiliate platforms, such as MaxBounty or Shareasale and promote products and services from those merchants.

As a rule of thumb, you only want to promote products and services you have used in the past or are currently using or firmly believe in their quality and value. You don’t ever want to promote a product or service you can’t vouch for.  If someone from your audience tries a product that is spammy or has a bad experience with it, it falls back on you for suggesting they use that product or service.  You can lose credibility from your audience and lose trust. This is something you definitely don’t want as a new blogger as you are building your online presence. Unfortunately, people are more willing to post bad reviews and negative experiences than good ones. So be careful about the products and services you promote.

Post Quality Content Regularly

To make money blogging as a beginner, I can’t stress enough to create quality content at least once a week to grow your audience and your income. Make sure you are posting relevant, evergreen content that is related to your niche or blog topic. You want to make sure that you are posting content that your readers want to read; not what you want to write about.

My posts are usually 1500 words or more. My posts are lengthier because I want to make sure I provide value to you, my reader. I don’t post just to post. I post relevant and helpful content that I wish I had as a new blogger. I also post content that is helpful to getting you up and running and off the ground with a brand new blog.

When blogging, you’ll want to do the same. Your readers will appreciate it and they will appreciate you.  Readers don’t want to read an article that isn’t on topic or which doesn’t provide them the answer they are looking for. Readers want information and read your blog posts to find this information.  Remember to always post relevant and valuable content.  Your posts don’t have to be 1500 words, like mine, but should provide value to your audience who look to you as the expert in your niche.

How Do I Find Relevant Topics and Keywords To Blog About?

You can do research on Pinterest and Google to search for keywords and topics that people are searching for.  For example, Google Keyword Planner is a helpful tool. You will need to create a Google Ads account to access the Google Keyword Planner.

Start by creating a Google Ads account:

You’ll want to click on the ‘Start Using Google Keyword Planner’ to use Google Keyword Planner.

You will then be prompted to sign in to Google Ads or to create an account. Follow the steps listed above to continue on to Google Keyword Planner.

Once you’re signed in to Google Ads, you’ll be prompted to select ‘Find keywords’ or ‘Get search volume and forecasts’. As a new blogger, your goal is to find keyword ideas to help you reach people in your niche who are interested in your product or service you plan on promoting. Click on the ‘Find keywords’ option.

Once you select the ‘Find keywords’ option, you’ll be prompted to enter in keywords relevant to your niche. You can also enter in phrases or other websites related to your niche to generate ideas. If your niche is weight loss, for example, you’d enter in keywords relevant to weight loss. For example, your keywords might be:

  • Weight Loss Program
  • Weight Loss Ideas
  • Weight Loss Smoothie
  • Lose Weight After Pregnancy
  • Start A Weight Loss Diet
  • Weight Loss Tips For Busy Professionals

Again, you’ll want to search for keywords relevant to your niche.

With this keyword search example, you can see the different keyword searches for weight loss. In the Avg. monthly searches column, you see which keywords are searched the most in Google. For example, “weight loss” is searched in Google between 100K – 1M times per month.  You’ll also notice the competition is high.  It also shows you the bid range for this keyword (which is the cost per click that you would spend to rank for this keyword).

I recommend searching for the keywords that have low competition.  This gives you a chance to rank in Google for that particular keyword. For example, “intermittent fasting” has low competition. It would be a good idea to create content around intermittent fasting as its competition is low.  It also has a high search volume, between 100K – 1M searches per month. That means that people are searching for information about intermittent fasting and the competition is low. It’s a good idea to jump on this keyword if weight loss or health is your niche.

Once you have some ideas of what topics to write about based on the relevancy of the keywords popularity, you’ll want to create content.  This is what I meant earlier about writing based on your audiences needs and not your own.  You may be passionate about weight loss but not so much as to intermittent fasting.  You have to blog about what your audience wants to learn about.  This will bring you traffic to your blog and eventually sales.  You have to create quality and relevant content.  This is how to do it and be successful as a brand new blogger.

Master Pinterest

I cannot stress this enough. Learn Pinterest and master it.  If you have 10 other social media accounts, put those on hold for now and learn how to become a master with Pinterest. Learning how to make money blogging as a beginner starts with Pinterest.

If you haven’t already, I highly recommend setting up a business account with Pinterest. Pinterest is a search tool where over 200 million active users visit every month. Over 72% of Pinners say Pinterest is where they were first introduced to a product or service. Pinterest also inspired them to purchase these products when they weren’t even looking to buy.  How cool is that!?

Besides being a major search engine, Pinterest is the Queen of Traffic.  With Pinterest, you can drive free traffic to your blog.  More pageviews to your blog = more sales to your products and services (or affiliate products and services).

The idea of using Pinterest is to create relevant content and pin it to your boards where other people can find your relevant content. I suggest creating 10 – 15 boards that are relevant to your niche and creating images with a CTA (call-to-action) to entice someone to click your link.

If you haven’t already, I suggest you sign up for Tailwind. This service schedules your pins for you so you can have your content readily available for the world to see. I also recommend joining some Tailwind Tribes.  Tribes are like Pinteret Groups, which are a group of people who share and pin your content.  The more re-pins and shares your content gets = a greater reach to a larger audience.  And we all know the larger the audience, the greater the pageviews and the increase in sales.

If you’re looking to join a Tailwind Tribe, I recommend you join my tribe, Chic Boss Bloggers. All niches are welcome. You can sign up for my tribe here.

Start Building An Email List

If you haven’t already, you’ll want to start building an email list.  An email list is a group of subscribers who are interested in what you have to say.  They sign up for an incentive and join your email list. Let’s say for example, you blog about weight loss tips and you create an incentive to get people to join your list.  Your incentive is a free 3-day weight loss smoothie plan.  In order for someone to get the free plan, they need to sign up for your list.  In exchange for the weight loss plan, you get their email address. This is an incentive. Here is an example of one of my incentive’s that I use to get email subscribers to my list:

When someone clicks on my incentive and signs up, they get access to my free course on Starting A Blog From Scratch. In exchange, I get their email address where I can provide value to them and also promote products and services which I feel will benefit them in starting a profitable blog.

The purpose of an email list is to grow your audience.  With a growing email list, you can provide value to your audience and also offer them products and services.  The more people you have in your list = the more money you can earn as a blogger.

How, you ask?

If you are looking to grow your email list, I recommend signing up for my free email course, Back To Basics: List Grow. I created this free course for the beginner who wants to grow their email list and earn money from their list.  If that sounds like you, I encourage you to sign up to my free course below.

Never Give Up

Most importantly, never give up. Blogging is not a get-rich-quick kind of deal. It takes time, effort and dedication. It takes real work.  What you put in, you get out. You have to be diligent and you have to carve out time to actually blog.  Even if you can dedicate 15 minutes a day to grow your blog, that’s better than saying, “someday” or “maybe tomorrow or next week”.

Get yourself a planner and keep a schedule.  If you don’t write down your plans to work on your blog then you plan to fail.  No plans are concrete unless they are written down with reminders so you don’t forget. I get it, you’re busy. So are 100% of all the millionaires in the world but they still all follow a schedule. It keeps them organized and on track to run their businesses. Same goes for you. No matter how big or small your blog is; it deserves your undivided attention if you seriously want it to grow and earn you money. You can truly make money blogging as a beginner. You just have to believe that you can.

Comment below and tell me what your blogging niche is, I’d love to hear from you! 🙂
