What is Google Pay?

Before getting started with Google Pay, it’s a good idea to know what exactly it is. If you don’t want to know a little about the application, then feel free to skip this section and jump right into setting it up.

Google pay is a payment application built by Google and uses UPI. Unified Payments Interface (UPI) is an instant payment system developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). What gained Google pay popularity is its simple User Interface and quick payments. It only takes a few seconds to finish the transaction and the money is received almost instantly. Another benefit is that you can send small amounts as well as large amounts.

So in short Google Pay allows for an easy and instant transfer of funds between individuals. With that aside, lets now take a look at how we are Getting started with Google Pay.

Getting started with Google Pay

Installing The App:

Head on over to the app store or play-store where you can find google pay and simply install from there. Once Installed, Launch the application and sign in with your Google account. You now need to enter your mobile number.

The application will automatically show you the bank accounts linked with your mobile number and you can choose the account you want to use for google pay. Now you might be asked to create a UPI PIN if you haven’t created one for your account before. If you have, you might be required to enter it when asked. After this, you are all set to transfer funds.

Payment Methods

There are a few methods you can use the Google Pay app to Send/Receive money. So lets talk about a few of them.

Tez Mode

This mode is very useful if the sender and receiver are close to each other. Lets say you went out for Tea, and decided to split the bill. This is a great situation where you can use Tez mode. Just Open up your app, click on Tez mode and choose to either pay and or receive. Let your friend choose the other option. Now the app will search for people near you who have enabled “Received mode” on Tez and show them to you. You can choose your friend to pay from the list and enter the amount to send. You need to enter the UPI PIN to authorise the transaction and in a few short seconds , its done.

QR Code

You can transfer funds by using QR codes too. Click on the 3 dots at the top right corner of the app. From the menu select “Display QR code” to show your QR code. The other person can scan the QR code by selecting “Scan QR code” option from the previously mentioned menu. The rest is the same as the previous method, where you have to enter the amount to send and authorize the payment.

This option is particularly useful for shops. They can take a print out of their QR code and let their customers scan it and pay using the application. It’s easy and hassle free.

More Options.

If your contacts saved on your phone are also using Google pay , they show up in the app too. You can send them money or receive money from them by selecting them from the list at the bottom section of the app. But you can do so much more by clicking the “New” button.

You can do the following :

  • Mobile Recharges
  • Pay bills
  • Bank Transfer
  • Send via Phone Number
  • Using UPI ID

Select any of the options you like and just fill in the details to transfer money, do recharges and pay bills. As a result of all these features and possibilities, the Google Pay has, in summary, become one of the most popular payment apps we are using today.
