New Writing Prompts

Use these Writing Prompts to get a little creative writing practice every day.

Use a single Prompt to start a story or combine several prompts in different ways to come up with different storylines.

1. The necklace had been in Eva’s family for generations. She remembered her grandmother wearing it, and later, her mother. Now it was Eva’s.

2. “Delivery for Anna Michaels,” said the UPS guy when Anna answered the door.

She looked around for a package but didn’t see one.

“I have to get it off the truck,” said the UPS guy. “It weighs a ton, so I wanted to be sure you were home first.”

3. Jacy hated pink, frilly dresses. But her mother insisted she wear one for her 8th birthday party.

4. Belinda felt as if she could dance all night. Then she looked down at her chair.

5. “Thanks for watching Jake while I’m away,” said Clifton. “He’s a good dog. I’m sure he won’t be any trouble.”

6. Jill picked up the cloth sack from the sidewalk and shook it. “Sounds like coins in there,” she said to her friend, Margarite.

7. Sarah loved shopping at the mall with her friend, Darcy. Until she noticed Darcy stuffing a new blouse and a scarf inside her jacket.

8. “Bless me, Father, for I have sinned,” said Patrick.

9. Madison didn’t want a big, fancy wedding.

10. I knew I shouldn’t do it. I also knew I was going to do it anyway.
