Three Things to do in Windsor, England

1. Walking in Windsor

Windsor Great Park is a Royal Park, but most of its five thousand acres are open to the public for free. It has ancient oak trees, forest trails, herds of deer and breathtaking views of Windsor Castle. The best views of the castle can be seen from this huge copper statue of King George III, pictured below.

I have enjoyed a number of walks in this park. The only drawback for me is the locations proximity to Heathrow Airport: a plane flies over every three minutes. To plane spotters however this may be an added bonus.

2. The Castle

Windsor Castle itself is definitely worth a visit. Originally founded by William the Conqueror in the 11th century, the castle has since been a home of British Monarchs for over 900 years. It is also the largest and oldest occupied castle in the world as Her Majesty the Queen often spends her weekends there.

Adult tickets for entry to the castle cost just over £20. For those unwilling to pay an entrance fee or wait in queues with other tourists, there are still fantastic views of the castle walls when walking around the outside.

3.Shopping in Windsor

Disclosure: I do not particularly like shopping, so I am not the best person for advice in this department. However, I do like the atmosphere of Windsor’s shops and markets.  Don’t forget to stop by the Fudge Kitchen on the high street for a free sample of delicious fudge and pop into T2 to taste and smell a huge variety of teas.

When you are ready to grab a bite to eat there are plenty of options. There is a monthly food market that serves great street food. Two of my favourite restaurants include Al Fassia Moroccan restaurant and Nam Kang Korean restaurant.
