The Victory Cup, known as America’s Polo Match, is held annually in Fredericksburg, Texas. This year the event will feature a special treat for hot air balloon fans, The Best of Texas Hot Air Balloon Festival, which will be held on December 29.
The event, advertised as kid and pet friendly, will be fun for the whole family. VIP and general admission passes to the Victory Cup include the hot air balloon festival. Balloons will be set up at 6am for a morning launch and then at 4pm, on the polo field, for a night time burn, glow and tethered rides.
The event will also feature live music, a wine tasting tent, a battle of the chefs tasting competition, polo matches and a kids play area. In its fourteenth year, the event draws thousands of polo and ballooning enthusiasts, who come out to enjoy a beautiful day of majestic horses, thrilling polo matches, dozens of food and beverage stands, and breathtaking hot air balloons.
Hot air balloons, lighter-than-air aircraft consist of a envelope containing heated air. and a gondola or wicker basket that carries passengers. Most balloons rise with the help of an open flame caused by burning liquid propane. The heated air inside the envelope makes the balloon buoyant since it has a lower density than the colder air outside the envelope. The first flights date back to 1783 when French brothers, Joseph-Michel and Jacques-Étienne Montgolfier, flew a hot air balloon over Annonay, Ardeche, France, for an unmanned flight that lasted 10 minutes. Later that year, Jean-Francois Pilatre de Rozier ascended into the air, reaching an altitude of 85 feet, the length of the tether.
The Victory Cup has anticipated an estimated two dozen balloons at the event. Tethered rides will allow attendees to experience a balloon ride while remaining anchored to the ground at the site. Tickets will cost $30 per person and must be purchased ahead of time. The hot air balloon glow, featuring balloons lit up in the evening for a glow effect, is included in the event ticket cost
Gates will open for the event at 6 am with the morning launch is scheduled for 6:45 am, weather permitting.
The Victory Cup has said that they expect around 5,000 to 10,000 guests at the event.
