Volvo’s Youngest Model SUV XC40 is all Set to be Launched in India, Next Month
Swedish automaker, Volvo will launch its first-ever small and the best-looking till date SUV XC40 in India in June 2018. The Volvo’s Youngest Model Suv XC40 will be the new gen of Volvo XC60 that was launched in 2018 and will join the mid-level Volvo XC60 and high-end Volvo XC90 in next month in India. The XC40 follows company’s new design and borrows styling cues from its elder siblings i.e. XC60 and XC90 SUVs.
Like its elder sibling XC60, the new XC40 is also built on company’s new Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) platform and its future series will underpin the same CMA platform. The CMA platform has its origin in China which means that the XC40 will not be assembled in India it will be a Completely Built unit (CBU).
Exterior and Interior Features
The 5-seater SUV XC40 follows Volvo’s current design philosophy having a massive front grille and iconic “Thor Hammer” LED headlights as well as the overall styling. Similar to its elder siblings, the XC40 also sports an L-shaped LED tail lights and twin-chrome exhausts.
Inside, XC40 will use the company’s Sensus 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system that has a couple of enhancements like supports navigation, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. You also get a premium cabin along with three-spoke multi-functional steering wheel, under-seat trays, comfortable leather upholstery, and extra storage space under the armrest which will appeal Indian buyer.
Safety Features
The XC40 packs a ton of safety features which include auto-brakes, a 360-degree camera, cross-traffic alert, and a semi-autonomous Pilot assist system which basically help an authorized person to start the car without a key fob.
Engine and Power
In India, XV40 will be available in two engine options D4 and T5. The D4 pushes will come with 2-liter diesel and pushes out 190bhp at 4,000rpm and 400Nm of the peak while the T5 Variant with 2-liter engine pushes out 247bhp of power. Notably, both these engines feature a range of three and four-cylinder turbocharged units mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox with All Wheel Drive (AWD), found in other Volvo models as well.
Price and Availability
Volvo’s youngest SUV XC40 priced at just over Rs. 35 lakh, slightly expensive than its segment rivals such as BMW X1, Mercedes GLA, and Audi Q3. Although the company, Volvo India has not officially confirmed the launch, few dealerships have already started accepting unofficial bookings for a refundable amount of Rs. 4 lakh.
