Book Review - Lord of the Flies


A group of boys gets stuck on an uninhabited island after their plane crashes mid-air. The group divided into two segments namely the Little Ones (Littluns) and the Bigger Ones (Biguns). The younger ones comprises of little mischievous Children and the adult ones work out together to live peacefully until Human weakness creeps in.

Ralph, the protagonist of the Story lays down the rules for everyone and jobs that they need to accomplish to maintain order. On the other hand, Jack with his hunting knife takes the responsibility to bring food for all by scavenging with his group of hunters. Meanwhile, a mysterious beast is spotted by the littuns which is made a joke by the grown up’s. However, the next time the “hunters” sees the beast.

On the other hand, Jack decides to overthrow order and discipline in his quest to become the chief of all the survivors. There is a clash between Jack and Ralph in which some children die and eventually the protagonist is left to fend for himself.


This is the story of human survival and what happens when the hunger for power creeps in at a time when unity is required. William Golding’s masterpiece “Lord of the Flies” takes you to close to human heart through the story of Ralph and Jack who decide to take care of the entire group but slowly fall apart.
