The rebadged version of SsangYong Rexton to be re-christened as Mahindra XUV 700 is coming to India very soon, most likely before the festival season this year. As per company sources, Mahindra is all set to commence the assembly of the SUV from the second half of this year. The company has signed an agreement with SsangYong to import the CKD units from Korea until December 2023 and assemble the SUV in India at the company’s Chakan manufacturing facility near Pune. Mahindra has also plans to indigenize many components to cut the cost. The launch of the new SUV will mark Mahindra’s foray in the Indian luxury SUV market.

The new SUV from Mahindra will mark its position above the Mahindra Xuv 500 and will give a tough fight to the likes Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour in market.

The SUV will get its power from a 2.2 litre, 4-cylinder, Euro 6 turbo diesel engine which will be mated with 6-speed manual and 7-speed automatic gearbox. The peak power delivered will be 185 Bhp with peak torque of 420 Nm between 1,500 and 2,500 rpm. The top-end version is expected to get a four wheel drive option. The full size SUV has a seating capacity of 7 with three rows.

The new SUV measures 4.85 m X 1.92 m X 1.8 m (length X width X height). It comes with a wheel base of 2865 mm which is greater by 120 mm than the Fortuner giving it a bigger interior space.

The Mahindra XUV 700 will come with other features like an integrated communication system, Wi-Fi, AppleCarPlay and Android Auto. The safety features scales high which include 9-airbags, advance emergency braking system (AEBS), lane departure warning, blind spot detection, lane change assist, traffic safety assist etc.

Mahindra is expected to keep the price competitive for the luxury SUV somewhere around Rs 25 lakh. It is most likely that the pricing would undercut the two popular rivals mentioned above and hence you can expect a big fight.

The new SUV has been showcased by Mahindra at the ongoing 2018 Auto Expo. The company has displayed the new Mahindra front grille and logo as well as replaced the SsangYong badging with Mahindra’s own. Mahindra will offer the sales and service for the new SUV across India.

You will notice that the new SUV looks identical to the SsangYong Rexton G4 except the Mahindra badging.
