Layana Fairmont's life has already been planned out even before she was born. Hiding her plan behind a sweet smile and an innocent facade, all the while planning to get her ducks in a row. All her life, she has been waiting for this time. Her 25th birthday. The day where she will finally receive her Twelve million dollars trust fun and finally be free from her parents. 

Five years later, Layana finds herself still stuck. It's not saying that she didn't try. She did. Layana wanted to find her own way, her own path that is different from what her parents had set for her. Granted in these five years, she has had her share of some wild nights and one night stands. She even goes so far as to visit Mexico by herself, only to come back home again in the end. Come back home to friends who aren't exactly friends. Come back to parties filled with fake smiles in which no one had any fun. Despite her wanting to break free from the only world she has ever known, she finds herself being sucked deeper and deeper into it. 

However that night, in a charity event for Homeless Youth of America – an event that she represents, she meets Brant Sharp. Standing in front of him and staring at this handsome hunk of a man, Layana has no idea that this man is going to change her life forever. 

After that night, they start to see each other more and more other. Going out on movie nights, dates, or just enjoying each other's presence. While there are times when Brant would forget about their date night – which annoys Layana to no end – he always treats her as if she is his whole world. And the more they spend time with each other, the more Layana realizes that she is slowly, but surely, falling for Brant Sharp. 

Until one day – a few months after their two years anniversary in Belize – when Layana is in a convenience store that she meets Lee. Cocky. Confident. Sexual. So different from Brant. While Brant is a man who is driven and intense, Lee is his exact opposite. Playful, carefree and flirtatious, Layana finds herself instantly drawn to the man. Even knowing that this is wrong, that she should have just gone home and forget this encounter ever happened, Layana can't stop herself. She wants Lee, and have him she will.

This Book totally blew my mind away. Trust me when I say, even if you think you know what is happening, you don't. As simple as the blurb of this book makes it sound, it isn't. "Black Lies" is definitely one of those books that stays with you for a very, very long time after you finish it. The story plot is one of it's kind, and please believe me when I say this : even if you think you have ever read a book like this, you haven't. 

Remember a few weeks back to my Review on Veiled Innocence? In that review, I mentioned that there are three kinds of books. The first type being the kinds of books where you need to heed the warnings from fellow readers and reviewers before going in. The second type, is the kind of books that wouldn't even matter if you find some sprinkles of minor spoilers while reading reviews because you will still enjoy it as the story is just that awesome. The third type, is reserved for the books that you should just go in blind. No reading reviews, no getting minor spoilers from your fellow readers, not even reading the blurb if you can. Because that is what will make a whole lot difference on your reading experience. 

And what category does "Black Lies" belong in? The third. Even now, as I am writing this review, I already feel like I am giving way too much of the story away and already robbing you of the spectacular reading experience that is this book. So I apologize, once again, for being vague in my review. But it is in my best interest that you have the best reading experience without me spoiling too much of the story away. 

My one and only advice if you were to read this book, is to give Layana the benefit of the doubt. Throughout this book, there will be things that she does that you will not agree with. God knows how many times while I was reading this book where I want to take the book and smack her head with it because of her actions. However, thanks to a good friend of mine who constantly reminds me to be patient with her, I managed to swallow up my confusion and anger and push through. Just like the this book, her actions are not always as it seems. 

This is not your average love triangle or story for that matter. It is so so much more than that and I cannot recommend this book enough. Black Lies is definitely one of those books that you just need to experience.
