Five days after sweeping the assembly electoral votes, bagging a landslide victory and swinging back to power in Chhattisgarh, Congress has picked its OBC leader Bhupesh Baghel to become the new Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh.

The 57-year-old Chhattisgarh Congress chief Bhupesh Baghel was chosen for the key position to run the state, over T S Singhdeo, Tamradhwaj Sahu and Charan Das Mahant. The task that Baghel will face after joining the office would be to revive the governance in Chhattisgarh where the party was wiped out after Maoist attacks in 2013. Besides being an experienced candidate, the aggressive opposition role played by Baghel and being a strong OBC leader, Baghel will make a strong MP to lead for the party and the state ahead of Lok Sabha 2019.

The party confirmed selection of Baghel as the CM of Chhattisgarh and now, he along with the new chief ministers of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh will take oaths as chief ministers in three back-to-back ceremonies. This is seen as mega extravaganza of opposition uniting with each other ahead of the mega battle of general elections.
