How many steps are in the system development life cycle

system development, which is no doubt is becoming more and more crucial since the demand for Software is steadily growing from every corner supposable. In fact, almost every machine that we use can be a by-product of some software authorizing it. After knowing much about software development and its importance in the current world, you will surely understand that there are so many things behind a software which makes it perfect before its launch. Its development is a highly intelligent and precise process, involving various steps. The whole process has been encapsulated in a simple term, i.e. ‘Software Development Cycle’.

What is system development cycle?

The next big question is what it is and why it is needed? As the name implies, System Development Cycle is a multistep procedure of a software, which is structured in a methodical way. In other words, it can be defined as a project management model that defines the stages involved in bringing a project from beginning to completion. The term system involve abet on system development life cycle, or SDLC, is often pitched later talking just roughly the software move on process, but many people have only an unclear idea about what the process actually involves.

Let’s suppose, you’re about to board on a software or web development project that you want to take your business to the next level, you may be surprised to learn that the software development life cycle starts long before the project builds actually occurs. The process of software development services goes through a series of steps that almost every software development company follows.

How many steps are in the system development life cycle?

It is well-known that programming software or an application for a developer can be slightly stressful at times, especially when it comes to coding different parts of a big project. Thus, having a perfect system which allows you to take the development process step-by-step without feeling overwhelmed is essential to producing a high-quality piece of software. Here, SLDC plays a crucial role which includes several stages and when followed, ensures that you have a good understanding of the task at hand while also eliminating errors.

Usually, 7 steps are in the system development life cycle, and now it has increased to seven phases. SLDC phases include-

  • Planning
  • System Analysis and Requirements
  • Systems Design
  • Development
  • Integration and Testing
  • Implementation or Coding
  • Operation and Maintenance

Planning:

First, you have to plan. Of course, you are going to start a big project on your own and planning is the process of deciding what your new information system should look like and then identify the resources needed to develop it.

System Analysis and Requirements:

Analysis is very important to proceed further to the next step. In this step, you will analyze the performance of the software at various stages and make notes on further requirements.

Design:

This stage is relatively simple, in comparison to the other stages of the SDLC. Here, you will see a blueprint of the software that you want. The process includes the design of the application, network, databases, user interfaces, and system interfaces.

Development:

Now, the actual task of developing the software starts with this step. Here, you start building your information system. Hardware is purchased and installed, and software is coded and then loaded on a testing platform.

Integration and Testing:

Your quality analyst staff will conduct the testing process. They make sure that your new information system can work flawlessly with your existing systems.

Implementation:

Once the software is developed, the stage of implementation comes. After excessively testing your program to make sure that there’s nothing wrong with it, you’re ready to implement it. Here, you need to implement the design into source code through coding, therefore it is time taking. In fact, this is the longest phase of the software development life cycle.

Maintenance:

The final step is to go through a maintenance process where the software will be maintained and upgraded from time to time to get used to the changes. It totally depends on the feedback you get from the customers. It also includes handling the remaining errors and resolve any issues which may exist in the system even after the testing phase.
