Acer Predator Helios 300
The Helios 300 is Acer’s first mind-range Predator built on Intel HQ processors and 1060 graphics. Top notch performance is its selling point, alongside a quiet cooling system, a nice keyboard, solid IO and overall good construction, with some gaming accents and Predator logos, but not as obvious as on the other Acer gaming machines. What really puts this one on the map is its unrivaled price tag, at least in the US: $1099 for a GTX 1060 6GB configuration. On the other hand, the Helios 300 is still fairly large and heavy, plus Acer skimmed somewhat on the screen quality and battery size.

THE GOOD
- well made and not very aggressive on the gaming accents
- good IO
- good keyboard and trackpad

- runs cool and quiet with daily use

THE BAD
- a bit heavier and larger than expected
- rather dim and color deficient screen
- the low travel keyboard won’t appeal to everyone
- runs very hot under load
- only gets a 48 Wh battery

Early impressions
Acer’s already tried and tested this formula with the its VX line, and with a higher-spec graphics and a better screen, I’m optimistic this is another solid addition to its gaming laptop range.
