Follow the below steps to install Hipchat client (atlassian hipchat) in Ubuntu 16.04 – A Best instant messenger app for Linux

Before start the installation of Atlassian hipchat client application we have to add the official repository. So use the below command to add the same.

elinuxbook@ubuntu:~$ sudo sh -c 'echo "deb https://atlassian.artifactoryonline.com/atlassian/hipchat-apt-client $(lsb_release -c -s) main" > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/atlassian-hipchat4.list'

After adding the repository use the below command to add the public key for Hipchat instant messenger app.

elinuxbook@ubuntu:~$ wget -O - https://atlassian.artifactoryonline.com/atlassian/api/gpg/key/public | sudo apt-key add -

After completing the above steps just update the packages & repositories of Ubuntu 16.04 using below command to take effect.

Now we are ready to install the Hipchat instant messenger app. So let’s go ahead and install the same using below command.

elinuxbook@ubuntu:~$ sudo apt-get install hipchat4   # install hipchat Package

Now to open the application just type the command hipchat4 on shell prompt. Refer the command below.

Here just click on Get Started and then Sign in for atlassian Hipchat client. Refer the snapshot below.

You can also open the application graphically using Search your computer box. Refer the snapshot below.

To uninstall the Hipchat instant messenger app use the below command.

elinuxbook@ubuntu:~$ sudo dpkg -r hipchat4   # Uninstall the Package
