The Underrated 7 (Part two)

(SPOILER ALERT: the following non-profit article is my personal opinion of some of my beloved childhood Disney films that I feel have been over-looked by my generation and in order to open up a few eyes, minor plot details are revealed. Do NOT read if you feel this may not be what you’re looking for!)

HELLO DISNEY FANATICS, ENTHUSIASTS, AND PONDERERS…

Think you’ve watched every animated Disney film? Looking for something a little different after over-playing Let It Go a million times? Or perhaps just want to know that there are others like you out there that obsess over ‘the little guys’ of Disney that no one else seems to remember? And of course, for all those who simply appreciate a good Walt Disney masterpiece… you’re welcome in advance! So, in no particular order lets reveal my underrated Disney picture number TWO (and my personal second favourite Disney movie of all time, feel free to guess my first!)…

1. The Hunchback of Notre Dame:

…Introducing the Unfortunate beginnings of Quasi Modo (Vocal stylings of Tom Hulce), the bell ringer and Esmeralda (Demi Moore), the wanted gypsy. With the help of a whimsical and loyal bunch of comrades they attempt to shatter the shackles of prejudice forced upon them since birth. However, we soon see that this is easier said than done as we meet the unfathomable Lord Frolo (Brought to life by Tony Jay), a man of the cloth infected with the sickness of power, who sees fit to eliminate those who are different and therefore, a threat. A tragic tale with cheerful undertones that will have you at every emotions mercy!

Why watch it?

  • Stunning artwork
  • Based on a Victor Hugo novel – plotline stood the test of time
  • Stands up for diversity
  • anti-prejudice message
  • Brilliant score and lyrical genius!
  • A lovable protagonist
  • Intertextuality for all the family to enjoy
  • Well-rounded and terrifyingly realistic antagonist
  • Unisex (AND for audiences of all ages)
