The 2019 Ford Edge was recently spied conducting a series of tests on the Dearborn streets in the United States. Ford gave the Edge SUV a major facelift in 2014, and it appears the test mule only receives a midlife makeover.
It shares a brand-new platform with the Lincoln MKX. We also expect the inbound Edge SUV to convey an array of Eco-Boost options that freshen up the crossover that is almost seven years old.
2019 Ford Edge – Exterior and Interior Profile
The 2019 Ford Edge gets a lot of juicy updates, such as a revised rear and new front façade. Nonetheless, the entire profile is almost identical to the current model. It rides on the Ford CD 4 platform and carries new headlight updates. Ford would like these upgrades to align with the Expedition’s offerings.
On the rear end of the new Edge, we can see a new bumper and a new roof spoiler design. We also expect to find some enhanced wheel designs, and the automaker might offer a Sports package that supplies the usual whistles and bells common in the Sports version. But, never get your expectations high on the hugely powerful engine.
The 2019 Ford Edge carries a mild refresh in the interior sector. We cannot find any visual change, although there are a few adjustments that brighten the whole picture. Edge will supply advanced technology, with such things as Sync3 infotainment system gracing the revised car. This system supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
The infotainment mentioned above represents an immense improvement, especially when you use it with the available eight-inch screen. Ford is planning to use the upcoming refresh as a way to re-evaluate the interior build quality. It is a commendable trial, but somehow far from perfect.
2019 Ford Edge – Engine Options
The 2019 Ford Edge might utilize the same set of engines that we find on the current model. The US buyers receive three different engine choices. The entry-level model gets a 2.0-liter turbocharged Inline-4 Eco-Boost engine. This unit punches out about 245 hp and 275lb.ft of torque, allowing the Ford Edge to deliver the fuel consumption and performance that will suit a small family.
Further up the range, Ford is likely to discontinue its 3.5-liter V6 unit. Its place will more than likely be occupied by a 3.3-liter V6 naturally aspirated engine with low friction internals, port injection, and valve timing. We expect this unit to produce about 280 hp and 250lb.ft of torque. Interestingly, the above powertrain option uses less fuel compared to the inline-4 engine.
A range-topping Ford Edge variant uses a 2.7-liter V6 twin-turbo unit with 315 hp and 350 lb.ft of torque. It seems Ford will be using this offering exclusively on the Sports version. All these engines mate a new nine-speed automatic gearbox as standard.
The two base engines come with front-wheel-drive as standard, while the Sports version gets all-wheel-drive as standard. In the European market, the automaker will only supply the base gasoline drivetrain and a set of two diesel units that deliver nearly 200 horsepower. European models receive a manual gearbox as opposed to the US version.
2019 Ford Edge – Debut and MSRP
The 2019 Ford Edge will hit the dealerships early next year. Some sources point out that this vehicle would make its global premiere at the 2018 North American Auto Show. Deliveries will kick off later. For the interested parties, the new Ford Edge will keep its price close to the ongoing model. The entry-level SE model sells at $29,000, followed by the SEL at $33,000, and Titanium at $37,000. The Ford Edge’s Sports variant tops the range at $41,000.
