Perfection

Being Perfect.

HELLO WORLD!

These past few days, the topic of “perfection” has been boggling my mind. Perfection, word that has been programmed in our minds that we often use to describe someone or something we deem suitable, ideal and extraordinary. And because of these affiliations that perfection comes with, everyone wants to be deemed perfect. Who doesn’t?

Which is why, I see people trying their very hardest to be an epitome of perfection. I’m sure we all have seen the gifs where a woman with no makeup can be transformed to just about anyone she wants to be, eqiupped with the right tools-makeup and contact lenses. I believe makeup should just be used to accentuate one’s features NOT completely change it beyond recognizable.

Yesterday, I watched a documentary on entitled Plastic-Short Film. It showed a body conscious woman getting ready for a date. As she was getting ready, she noticed a pimple on her nose and she started “wishing” she had a “prettier” Face. All of a sudden, her face can be moulded into whoever she wants to be, the possibilities are endless!  She then proceeded to mould herself to be the ” perfect woman”. Stretching her legs, cinching her waist, and tweaking her face. And to be honest, she looked like an alien after. With her eyes bigger, nose sharper, mouth fuller, cheekbones higher and forehead bigger, she looked creepy-she didn’t look human. When her date arrived, she looked in the mirror and saw her reflection…

From this short film, it shows what many of us are suffering from. We want to be “perfect”. The “perfect” that the media has instilled in our brains. I guess its just sad. It didn’t feel right to me when I saw her literally mould her face and body to be just what she wanted because the end result wasn’t her. It was another person.

We will have days where we just feel so down.”Why am I not like this?” ” Ooh, I love her eyes. Why don’t I have it?”  “Why am I not like her?” Let’s face the truth, we can’t have Freida Pinto’s glossy black mane

 Keira Knightley’s refined cheekbones

 ,Cara Delevingne’s bushy bold brows

 ,Blake Lively’s strong nose

 and Scarlett Johansson’s pout

. But you have this beautiful healthy hair that frames your face, brows that compliment your features, eyes that twinkle whenever you talk and you killer smile! So don’t you go wasting your time by asking these stupid, silly questions.

We all have our imperfections but that’s what makes us all perfect in our own way. You wanna improve on yourself? Go ahead. You wanna lose some weight? Go run. You wanna explore makeup? Have a blast. What I’m trying to say is, don’t try to fit in this tiny bubble of perfection that the media has created for us. It’s not healthy.

Be your own bubble!Embrace your curves!Appreciate your lovely freckles and moles! Show some love for your love handles! Hug your muffintop just a little tighter! Love yourself because if you don’t, who will?

Be yourself! Peace out girl scout!
