BASIC CLEARING AND DISASSEMBLY OF A GLOCK

Clearing the Firearm (Unloading Sequence)
  1. Point the muzzle of the firearm in a safe direction and make sure your finger is not on the trigger.
  1. Remove the Magazine by pressing on the Magazine Release Button. This button can be pressed using the thumb when operated by a right-handed shooter. Once the magazine is released it will fall freely from the magazine well. The operator should have their left hand on the magazine prior to pressing the release button to keep the magazine from falling to the ground.
  1. Lock the Slide to the rear by pulling on the slide with the left hand while holding the pistol grip with right hand and right thumb pressing upward on the slide lock. The operator should feel the slide lock open. Now if a round is in the chamber and the firearm is loaded it should be extracted and ejected from the weapon when the slide is pulled to the rear.
  1. Inspect the chamber to make sure that the weapon is safe and cleared. Physically put your finger in the chamber to feel for a cartridge as well as visual inspection. If a round is still in the chamber cant the firearm so that the round will fall out of the chamber. Continue to point the firearm in safe direction. If there is not a round in the chamber, then the firearm is deemed Clear and Safe. Pull the slide to the rear releasing the slide catch and guide the slide forward. Never let the slide slam forward on its own unless a loaded magazine is in the magazine well. The feeding operation gives a type of cushioning for the slide. When the slide slams into the chamber without a round in place, it can cause a defect on the barrel, chamber or slide from metal hitting metal.

Operator Level Disassembly
  1. Remove the slide and receiver by pulling the slide slightly to the rear while also pulling down on the Slide Release. Once the Slide release is pulled down, squeeze the trigger. This will allow the slide to move forward on its own. Once that is complete pull the slide forward and it will move along the rails and separate from the lower receiver.
  2. Now remove the Recoil Spring Assembly by putting pressure with your index finger. Make sure to not apply to much pressure and causing tension on the spring allowing it to spring out of your hand.
  3. Now remove the barrel. It should slide out easily.
  4. This is the furthest an operator should disassemble their Glock. Any further disassembly should be conducted by an Armorer or Gunsmith.
