I have been searching for about six months to find the right laptop that suits my needs. I’m not an impulse buyer which can be a good and a bad thing depending on the situation. I first went through the main software I use and looked at their system requirements. You can search up the specifications on Google or check the packaging if you still have it.
I needed to find a laptop that had at a minimum Windows 10, 8GB RAM, i5 processor, and one USB 2.0 port. I set myself a budget and I wasn’t willing to pay more than $1000.
There were plenty of laptops with the specifications I needed. I researched the product reviews online to help me decide. There are several sites that you can go to including:
- PC World Australia, pcworld.idg.com.au/section/notebooks/products/
- Gizmodo Australia, gizmodo.com.au/reviews/laptop-and-tablet-reviews/
- CNET, https://www.cnet.com/au/topics/laptops/
You can also check the company website directly and I’ve found some stores have a quick comparison feature where you can select a few products and compare only the ones you’ve chosen. It’s a neat feature and certainly makes it easier to find out what each laptop has or doesn’t have.
After much research, I went to the Boxing Day sales and visited a JB HIFI store searching for a Lenovo Ideapad 310. It has Windows 10, 12GB RAM, i7 processor, two USB 2.0 ports and one USB 3.0 port. It has a lot more going for it but these were the most important specifications. It cost me $999 which was discounted from $1299. I was stoked and can confirm it works perfectly.

Whilst it took me some time to find the right one, I’m glad I was Specific">specific about what I was going to get. Research is the key.
