Yesterday August 17 (1702) was the birthday of most interesting Mughal Emperor. In India, Mughal Kings showed their own unique way of ruling. From Babar, Akbar, Humayun, Jahangir, Aurangzeb to Shah Jahan and Bahadur Shah Zafar, everyone was famous for their unique style in their respective reigning period. But in these names of powerful Mughal Kings ,India has forgotten one Mughal Emperor named Muhammad Shah Rangeela, who was different from all of them.
In fact, only a few emperors in the world were like him. Whenever in the history he was mentioned somewhere people made fun of him. Because he was way out of the league of the emperors like Nader Shah, Gengiz Khan and Aurangzeb. Instead of a sword he liked spending time with girls and love Shayaris or poetries.
Muhammad Shah Rangeela, on 29 September 1719, he was given the title Abu Al-Fatah Nasir-ud-Din Roshan Akhtar Muhammad Shah and enthroned in the Red Fort. But he was not interested in ruling at all. He was one of a kind emperor who loved artistic work and liked to appreciate artists. During his reign, Qawwali was reintroduced into the Mughal imperial court and it quickly spread throughout South Asia.
Muhammad Shah Rangeela loved the presence of painters and musicians in his court. On his request Khayal style was introduced in the field of painting and today also it is famous among the artists. Painters were given special rights during his reign. He loved to portray himself in the paintings. His every type of painting was portrayed on the canvas even while doing the sex.
In his 30 years of reign, he never tried to attack any other king or emperor. He was a patron of the performing arts, almost at the cost of administrative priorities, paving the way for the disintegration of governance. Music, fun, love-affairs, sex, paintings are all his ideas of living life. He even used to wear women clothes and danced as he was fond of dancing. He died on 26 April 1748, his funeral was attended by visiting Imams from Mecca.
