No Fats, No Fems.

Not even Christina Aguilera thinks your beautiful.

– Guy from Grindr

This was the best insult anyone has even thrown at me. It made me laugh. Some random person who I didn’t even message decided this was a good thing to let me know. An early 2000s pop star didn’t think I was beautiful. The singer of “Beautiful” thought of me as Ugly. And I loved it.

Of course reading this at 19 years old was a slight bummer. I wasn’t as confident as I am today. After being told many things like “you have a beautiful face but I don’t date fatties” or “you’d be hot as fuck if you lost like 100 pounds” I just started not caring about guys opinions about my physical appearance.

Yes, I am overweight. No, I won’t be like the countless fat guys on dating sites saying “I am fat but I am currently trying to lose weight.” Because fuck that! Like no, I do not have to let you know that I am currently trying to lose weight. I owe you nothing.

My diet has drastically changed over the course of the year. I’ve struggled with weight loss for 10 years and I have managed to keep off the 50 pounds I have lost since high school. From Gym Membership to gym membership I’ve tried. I won’t be saying “it’s so hard” because that is already apparent. Also, I am not one of those people who will be mad at someone for not thinking I am attractive. I get it. Most people think fat is ugly.

This isn’t about “body acceptance” or whatever. I truly believe in order to make positive changes you have to Love yourself and your whole self. I love who I am. I love my body so I now treat it with the respect and the love it deserves. By eating right, doing yoga, and staying more active I have found myself happier than normal. Do yourself a favor and let yourself explore a world of a healthy, better you. You deserve it.

This crazy world we live in is filled with people who will say things to you that are insulting and rude. Dating is no exception. Dating is difficult. Especially for a gay, overweight man living in the middle of the bible belt.

Just remember to be kind to everyone in your life. There is no need for harsh words. Hell, ghosting is a thing. Just ignore the person. Act like they don’t exist. Push the damn block button. It’s there for a reason.
