A Thank-you Smile

As you may have seen that it's been a week I last blogged, it's because of my studies. School has started and I have loads of things to face now, since it's also a brand new phase of my life. I don't really have much leisure due to the stress that I face even on the first week of school -- yup, this once again proves that I'm Asian. Now I promise to at least come up with one or two blogs a week no matter how busy am I, just to actually spend time writing and sharing my stories. I do not hope that one day I will start to laze around and abandon this blog again, so I have to learn to be persistent.

Now, coming back to today's blog, I've actually saved this blog title for more than a fortnight already. I wanted to talk about this because it's something that makes today's society.

A thank-you Smile, it may seem easy as it is, but I don't see many doing it anymore, as if the world has become a colder place to live in. Everybody loves to see others smile to them, especially after helping someone, the smile indicates that you appreciate the effort done by the other party.

One of the thank-you smile that I encounter very often is the smile that someone makes when I help to hold the door or lift for them, even if it means to wait for a few 10 seconds. This is because I myself don't like when people could actually wait for 10seconds just for someone to get on the lift, but chose to just close the door. This is especially heart-breaking when it comes to old people. I do have many old aunties and uncles living in this condominium, and their steps have become really slow as they aged. It's also somehow tough for them to just stand up. So i do think that helping them to hold for the door or lift is one of the simplest yet pleasant thing to do.

Another example is in the Restaurant. Now we do agree that waiters and waitresses are in the service industry, therefore being kind is the most basic requirements of all. How do you appear to be kind in front of people you don't know? Easy, a smile. Now, how many restaurants actually have waiters waiting at the door or entrance to welcome you with a smile?I only see Japanese and Korean restaurants having this. This simple act will give the customers a really wonderful first impression and make the customers feel comfortable and warm when dining.

When you order your food, waiters should be happy to take your order, not reluctantly. When you foot the bill, they should also show you a thank-you smile for dining at that particular restaurant. To be honest, if the food doesn't really taste well, the good service of the restaurant may still attract customers to dine in.

Just imagine, if you were to pay in front of the cashier who isn't willing to be at your service, they would show you a bitter/sour face. Nobody likes that right? Yes, they are still human and may have a bad day, but just think from the other perspective, if you are that kind of person, will people actually like being with you? Especially after someone help you yet you show entirely no gratitude towards someone.

Come on, it's just a simple smile. It doesn't require you to calculate the angle of how much you should smile. Just slightly lift up your lips, and people will already feel satisfied. This one simple smile may actually enlighten someone, may actually brighten up someone's day. You may never know that this could bring so much of an impact to others, especially in this stressful modern society.

Warm up the world starting with a smile, not just any smile, your smile! Make the world a warmer and better place to live in.
